  • Gone through 2 sets of top mounts/bearings!!

    Hi all,

I have been suffering from a creaking/popping noise on my gti from my top mounts for a long time now. I have replaced the mounts and bearings twice now and the noise just keeps coming back.

This time i replaced them with aftermarket ones and now the right hand just squeaks when driving and turning!!

Does anyone know a possible solution as it is starting to get really annoying now.

The car is on bilstein coilovers.

Remove the coilovers. If you don't want to do that then raise them up closer to the factory height. Unfortunately if indeed the mounts and bearings are the problem them there is no fix.

Pontiff had a similar issue in his 77tsi that we found was the airbox moving on its mount which when heavily lowered on its coilovers, exacerbated the problem due to the increased damping stiffness. Check this also but each car is different so just because 9 out of 10 lowered gti's don't have an issue, you might unfortunately just have that 1 car that is prone to this issue.

Thanks gavs, i need to raise the car anyway because of fitting new alloys which poke out more so i will see if that makes it any better
