Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SEL grille upgrade, help fitting?

    Hi there,

I have purchased my SEL grille and i wish to change this over but do not know where to begin to take off the old one.

Does the bumper have to be removed?

    Thanks in advance.

After some solid googling for you, apparently you remove the foglight trims (this is in the manual under lights I think) then there are a few screws.

Here is where I read it

Hiya. . . I fitted this exact grille on mine

You remove the two fog covers using a flat screwdriver with some thick black tape over it (so you don't damage the paintwork), and at the very bottom left (and right) of the centre grille. . .there will be a tiny gap which connects to a small 1cm-high bit of the fog grille (it's actually right below where the blue protective film ends on the left side of that grille). . stick it in there and look to pop out the fog cover.

Then pull out the centre grille , if you have trouble getting it out - then look at your new grille to see where the clips are and stick your screw driver in between it, and the paint, as to where the clips are.

It's really easy buddy. I hope I explained that half decently.

          Thanks for the help,

I found out from another post that there is a tool included by VW in the toolkit for removing the fogs!

This is the 'Extractor Hook Tool' found in the VW toolkit and the purpose of these are to pull out the fog surrounds without sticking anything into the gaps and paint, the little tab goes into the hole and pulls out the fog surround with a bit of pressure
Grill was fitted today with minimal problems

You guys are awesome. I damaged the grill between my two fog lights a few months back and the stealership wanted nearly 300 bucks to fit a replacement grill. Thats just the labor cost!
