  • Manual mode more fuel efficient and better for the transmission?

Hi guys. Just wondering, is driving in manual mode more fuel efficient than drive mode? I started driving in manual mode 90% of the time since i like to switch gears myself (around 3000 for the first 3 gears) and heard that it's better for the life of the DSG transmission. When I come to a stop at a light etc I switch it from manual to drive to reduce my rpm at idle then switch back when I take off again. Does this constant change damage the engine as well? Cheers for your thoughts.

I have a 2011 Polo GTI 7 speed DSG, and yes with the engine oil problem... :/

Driving in manual has been found by a few forum members to decrease oil consumption, but it will increase fuel consumption. Drive is designed for fuel efficiency above all else, hence the clutches being destroyed prematurely and woeful oil consumption.
Switching between manual and drive should not be an issue at all.

I'm running my GTI in now. I wonder which mode is better for this period.

Manual Mode for break-in is probably better. The user manual says to not keep constant low revs for the first 1500km
