  • Who can figure this one out?

So heres the story.. Took my polo gti 6r my13.5 to the dealership for its 15k service. Picked it up and everything was good. The next day i hopped in my car to go to work and once i started up the car, the catalyic converter light lit up. Car felt normal.

I called the dealership straight away and booked the car to get a check up in the next 2 days.

So the day prior to getting it into the dealership, i refuelled. Started the car and noticed the light had gone. So i called the dealership again and notified them and they said just to keep an eye out for it etc.

Any ideas? Been driving it for a few days now and it all seems all good.

Well not to alarm you or anything but mine did that...light came on I pulled over switched car off and after a bit when I started it was off and didn't come back on(thought it might be a faulty sensor)...to be on the safe side I took it to the dealership and lo and behold even though car felt normal they find there isn't compression in one of the cylinders so had to get a new head.

Worth taking to the dealer when you have some spare time, the event will be logged in the engine computer so there won't be any guess work

Yeah I think the best bet would be to take it to the dealer.

Fuel for thought though, it could be emissions related (a very long stretch) but at every service they put a 90ml can of injector cleaner in to keep the injectors in good shape. Thing is it has to be mixed with a min of 40L. Obviously the dealer is not goin to fill up your tank so it could be too concentrated, especially if there was little fuel in the tank. The stuff still burns but not like petrol and could confuse the sensors. Just a thought...
