  • Current Vw warranty for transmission

    Hi all,

After studies here. I finally ordered my polo GTI last weekend and now endless 3 months waiting

one thing I wish to confirm is When I was in one dealer, I was told transmission now is covered by Vw Australia for 5 years, while the dealer I ordered my car told me now it is only 3 years standard.

I did google search and found out all ideas were published by drive magz and Smh, but seems like not by Vw Aus.

So anyone can help confirm what is the truth? did Vw Australia launch the 5 years warranty for driveline last year? Did they now change it back to standard 3 years?

    Thanks.

I believe the extended five year warranty on the driveline/DSG ran out around September last year - certainly that's what was advised to me at the time when I was looking at the Tiguan, and it's the three years that is now printed in the brochures. I assume the same would apply to the Polo.

I was told the five years was brought in obviously due to the media storm last year, but that it was wound back and removed so as not to scare the market place in to thinking there were issues.

Given most consumers think there are still issues they should have just left it there - after all if there weren't issues then it wouldn't really cost them much.

There have been a number of 'goodwill' cases of repairs post-warranty so best to remain on good terms with the dealer.

Purchased my Polo MY13.5 in August last year and got the 5 year warranty on the DSG.

Who has the 5 year warranty in writing? I bought mine this time last year when it was being mentioned, but I don't think I actually have anything written down.

I thought it was covered by the 5 year warranty and backdated to manufacture date? Ie the only models that would not be covered would be pre-2009 models?

The five year driveline warranty was only in place for a limited time to try and combat market 'fears'. It expired around end of August/early September 2013, and all current documentation refers back to the usual 3 year/unlimited km warranty.

I assume they will honour the vehicles they advised were covered by the five years. I remember receiving correspondence about it when I was looking at the Tig, and had I proceeded with purchase I would have been printing and keeping those.

As above though, if you're on reasonable terms with the dealer and they go into bat for you, the DSG can be fixed outside warranty in some cases at little or no charge. There are examples of this scattered across this forum.

It's in the Polo April 2013 brochure and the General Warranty Terms and Conditions I received from VGA in the temporary welcome pack. The car was purchased May 2013.
