  • VW Polo GTI Shark fin antenna & Vinyl wrap roof advice

I have a 2011 Polo GTI with sunroof and im looking to get the back part of the roof vinyl wrapped black. I also thought while they had the antenna out i could swap it for a shark fin.

My questions are, does anyone recommend a vinyl wrapper in Melbourne, also any advice on a shark fin antenna?

I can recomend CarX in Clayton. They are have done a lot of cars and there workmanship is really good and price from what I can tell is very competitive $150 from the sun roof back, $250 front to back. Choice of Hexis or 3M vinyls.

About the antenna, CarX said because it involves removing all the head liner (which requires all the side panels to come off) its a lot of effort for nothing, as they can squeeze the wrap under the antenna as there is a small rubber seal which is enough to keep the vinyl down.

You can then get a small stubby antenna from 'DUB Addiction along the princess hwy.

If you are after a proper shark antenna this is the one VW genuine SHARK FIN GPS Antenna 3C0 035 507 P Phantom Black but it's going to cost you a bit to get it fitted, but like nomadx38 said the small stuby one could just do it for you

(for the wrapping this could help just a bit http://www.tintacar.com.au/car-wrapping)

Thanks for the offer Jordan. How do you get to the bolt without removing the head liner? Also do you know of a shark fin replacement? Sloau, i think that antenna is GPS only, not AM/FM

I installed one and the connectors don't match up for the AM/FM antenna. Even if you pop off the plastic connector the AM band doesn't work, FM is just fine.
So I have a gsm connection and satellite connection but no radio antenna. Unless someone can help out?

                      Hey Pazza,

Did you get this resolved in the end and did you get any vcds errors post antenna swap even with the AM not connected?

I just got my roof sprayed piano black and wanted to grab the oem piano black shark fin above but was just concerned about error codes and loss of GSM. I will sacrifice AM if for the antenna change as long as everything else works. Cheers bud.

                        No VCDS errors.

I don't any connection for AM radio anymore so no ABC radio for the cricket.

Upside is that I have a gps connection available if I want to upgrade the head unit further.

I was going to take a look at what the sharkfins on the Golf GTI's are like, but not having AM radio hasn't annoyed me yet and it's been a year now.
