Can be done with VCDS but is technically illegal. VW won't do it either because of this.

Sorry about that. I forgot that if your car comes with DRL's then it is illegal for them to be disabled.
I'm no VCDS expert sorry, but I'm sure there's someone else here who can help.

Not anymore, by law they are forbidden and have given a TPI saying not to disable any drl's for customers.

Jus to clarify for everyone, ADR's (Australian Design Rules) are not law, they are design guidelines that are recommendations for people manufacturing or altering automobiles for Australian roads. The laws are different to the ADR's and most of them follow from UNECE regulations so just because an ADR says one thing, the law can be slightly different on the odd (rare, but I have found it a couple of times) occasion. In this case the ADR stipulates what the DRL should do and where on the vehicle it should be, the law says that if a vehicle is complied with drl's then by law the driver of said vehicle as well as the person and/or company that disabled the DRL, hence altering the car outside the bounds of compliancing laws is liable for the defect and available for prosecution, which I am sure everyone can appreciate, is understandable as to why the dealerships no longer do this tweak, it's not worth the massive fines.

Thanks for the clarification. VW disabled the DRL's on our Polo before we even bought it so I suppose those laws weren't in place then?

DRLs were enabled as part of the MY12.5 refresh (where they also added MDI and BT standard)

                      Thx guys for the reply.

The annoying part is, in polo the drl is using low beam, back light and even the number plate light (all outside light on) except the dash light inside. I don't mind the drl in golf, jetta or passat as they only use small light or fog light but not your low beam and the back light still off.

I can understand if the dealer won't do it. But my question is if I personally get vcds, can i turn it off myself by changing the coding?

just want to get confirmation if anyone successfully done it before?

There have been people on here who have turned it off. Some have even been able to (I think) change the DRL behaviour so that only the low beams are on, no rear lights/number plate lights.

The dash light is on when the DRLs are on. I like how the dash lights start to dim as a reminder that it is starting to get too dark for just the DRLs, and to turn on the normal headlights.

If you don't like the DRLs on during the day, turn the headlight switch one position to the right. This turns off the DRLs. Just remember to turn the switch back when you get out of the car.

I didn't like the DRLs to begin with, but got used to them.

I am a strong believer of DRL's and agree they they should never be disconnected.

But I think as far as styling goes the way VW have done it on the Polo is pretty poor. Just doesn't look nice like the Golfs. Personally if it was me I would turn off the DRL for the low beam and move it down to the foglights (which can be done if you have the sports pack or a GTI).
