So far Ford is leading sales in the Fiesta / Focus range over the VW Golf, Toyota Corolla and the Polo will soon be toppled.

November figures haven't been released yet. Not only is the Golf selling more but their sales are improving while those of the Focus are declining. And the Corolla has remained no1 all year with 3443 sales in September and 3861 in October.

Allow me to rephrase, world wide they out sell the golf / polo. Focus has received awards for being the highest selling vehicle in the world in 2012, I reckon they'll get 2013.
Corollas were the top selling range again in November with almost 4000 units sold ,the reason is that both private people and fleets buy cars which are totally reliable,will last forever,and have great resale value many years down the line.
I cant see this changing,and with the all new sedan coming next year,2014 will surely be the year of the Corolla again ???
If you want something else small and fast, there are more options than ever.
If you like the look of the new 208 GTI, its a nice little package, albeit stick shift and a dearer. Great drive IMO.
I'd get out of it if it makes you feel nervous to own / drive, spend your coin on something you don't have to worry too much about and can get on with enjoying,
I dont doubt Toyota's reliability or durability but I dont think anyone would buy one on anything other than a price point. If you go for a test drive I guarantee you wont even get out of the driveway before you come to realise that the golf and the focus are much more refined and better cars to drive. If you dont care about cars at all and you are just after a tool to get you to your next bingo tourney then the corolla will get you on price. Fleet buyers are always going to go the cheaper car because your boss doesnt car if the engine feels as though it has a Massey Fergusson flywheel attached to it. I dont think vehicles sales are a reflection on the cars but more on buyers. That VW can increase sales at the same time as all this bad publicity is pure genius.
Scarier is that Skoda only sold one more car than Great Wall. I dont know why they dont dump the brand here and import more VW models. The skoda brand just complicates pricing imo.
Ooops sorry. Nothing against the cars, I could have easily bought the fabia if I wasn't a badge snob and been a vw owner for over 25 years. And I have ogled the octavia rs several times now.
No dramas, I was only playing. I understand the sentiment. To be fair, VW Australia don't seem to know how to place Skoda in the market. FWIW, if the pricing stacked up, I'd be aiming them squarely at the Hyundai/Ford/Mitsubishi end of the market, and maintaining that "semi-premium" mark-up for VW. I'd think the last thing VW needs is to get involved in the pricing war: there must be little enough margin in some of the smaller cars in particular.

The new Octavia has been priced really well, with features that don't exist on the Aus Golf and the RS should follow-suit. If Skoda released a Rapid Spaceback RS it would probably interest quite a few people here (though its based on the Polo, so its not much of an upgrade tech wise).
Personally, I'll probably end up in the new Octavia RS when its out.
