  • How long can you leave a car in the garage?

Hey guys, I'm getting sent away for work for around 6 months. How long can I leave my car locked up and not started before I will encounter trouble? Is the worst I'm facing a flat battery if i don't disconnect? I live by myself so no one will be able to start or use the car for this time.

By the way, its a small turbocharged engine

6 months. I'd say probs just a flat battery. My dads corolla sat for over a year and all we needed to do was replace the battery and it started right up. Then again it is a corolla

For that length, you should pop the bonnet and remove any battery cover otherwise you will get build up on the battery terminals because of no air flow. You should also put the car on axle stands or blocks so that the tyres will not develop a flat spot.

Crack the windows open otherwise the interior can get a bit stuffy.

Ideally the car should be started and run once a week for around 10 minutes after it has reached operating temperature, just to get the fluids circulating.

You might want to look into long term car storage services as they will take care of things.

I have been overseas since nov 18th. A friend was looking after my car. Battery now dead. Is it better to just get a new battery or jump start and go for a long drive? Has anyone bought a new battery so I know what I am up for?

The battery was playing up a little bit before I left but each time I got it checked it was fine again. I return to australia on the 13th of dec. Any help would be greatly appreciated

We left both our cars in garage for two months last year and both started first time when we came home.

Doing it again in April-June for 66 days so will see if batteries have deteriorated in the two years.
