  • Wrong oil or ok?

Just had the 30k km service, and I've used Liqui Moly since the first oil change. We used 5w30 4200 Liqui Moly the first time, but yesterday our mechanic (who's amazing, total price $427 including oil, VW filter, air filter, cabin filter, brake fluid, brake flush, tyre rotation) put in 5w40 4100 Liqui Moly. My question and fear is its not an approved VW oil. Can anyone shed some light on this? Do I need to have it rectified? Or am I ok 'til the 45k km service. And also anyone know where to get new wiper blades that don't cost $100?

    Cheers

The 5/40 can be used in petrol engines only and 5/30 in both petrol and diesel.. theres a full chart and write up in the lubricants section on the forum.. also some aero (floppy style) wipers can have inserts replaced some are whole blades just depends.....VDUB.....

All petrol engines can use any oil that is approved to 502.00 or 504.00

VW do not recommend a specific viscosity grade.

Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100 5W-40 has 502.00 approval, so it's fine to use.

Only for top ups, under the premise of being changed for a 504/507 oil in the near future. The only 504/507 oil (which is required for a full oil change) that is a 5W40 is made by Petronas and is impossible to buy in Australia, unless you become an importer.

Walk into a dealership and say that you have been using a 502 approved oil on one of these cars instead of the recommended/required -depending who you talk to- 504/507 oil and see what they say regarding warranty....

I'd be getting it in writing to say that a 502 oil is a required standard as back up if you don't want to get your mechanic to change the oil to a correct one.

My 77TSI manual states 502/505 for time and km service and 504/507 for longlife service which of course does not apply in Australia

504.00 is only compulsory for petrol engines if the vehicle is on the "LongLife" service regime (variable intervals of between 15 000 km / 12 months and 30 000 km / 24 months, as determined by the onboard computer).

For vehicles on the "Time & Distance" service regime (fixed intervals of 15 000 km / 12 months), one may use either 502.00 or 504.00

Australian delivered passenger cars should be on the "Time & Distance" regime.

I saw that as well. It's clearly an error of some sort, as the products themselves don't even claim meet 504.00/507.00 (let alone approved), despite being on the list.

The technical literature only states that 504/507 oil is compulsory for vehicles on the "LongLife" service regime, or for vehicles with a TDI engine fitted with a DPF (irrespective of service regime).

No need - it should all be stated in the owner's manual.

As I said in the post above. It is in the Manual, on page 209.

However when I bought ours I asked which oil to use for top ups and was told it had Castrol Professional III Longlife 5W-30 504/507 in it and was given a brochure for that and told to use it.

I am aware of what the manual says as to using 502 oil but have followed the dealers advice and use the better spec oil.

It also suits as I can then use the same in both vehicles

The Liqui Moly in the OP IS an approved oil so will have no trouble with the use of that in a 77TSI
