MY!3 GTI Head lights question

Hi, we have a new Gti and are totally loving the car.
We have had '97 Polo and 2006 Golf TDi previously so it appears VW is becoming a habit, even through their crap servicing and well lets not go there.

Qu: the headlights don't turn off when ignition is turned off, am i missing something?
It "beeps" at me like some 1980's retro fit headlight reminder. Our old traded Golf TDi switched the lights off automatically.

I assume that DRL are no good at night.
So i have been manually turning lights on and off.... is there a way to have the headlights auto turn off with the ignition?

Actually YES! By lights I assume you are talking about your parking lights are staying on - becuase you have to switch it back to "0", if you don't it pings when the door is opened. The low-beam / high-beam will always turn off after the ignition is turned off (unless you have a serious electrical fault as its hard wired not software)

There is an option in VCDS that you can DISABLE - the option which is enabled by default allows the parkers to be used irrespective of the terminal 15 status (terminal 15 for lighting I assume is the master positive which becomes active when the ignition is turned on).

Which in simple terms means if the ignition is on or off the parkers can be used. If the option is disabled you can only use the parkers when the ignition is on. When means when you turn off the car they will go off automatically.

Remember you will loose the ability to use them when you actually need them without having to leave the key in the ignition - like parking on a poor visibility corner at night etc...

Ok, so if the Op has access to VCDS then yes, they can have their long coding changed but be very, VERY wary of doing this now with cars still under warranty...

My answer was based upon that for the every-person, no it can't.

Yes that's correct you will require VCDS to do the change.

Not sure what you mean by voiding your warrantee though Gavs? It's not like its any physical mod. The software encoding can be done at a dealer level - and that's saying somthing because the dealers know s**t all

OK, thanks from both of you, thats good info and something to think about.
We are just finding it hard to remember turn them off and the beeping is pretty offensive. I'm just surprised that a 2013 VW would not have a better system, our old Golf mk5 never had a problem.
