Clunking Sound (Front Right Tyre)

Hi All,

After my most recent round of upgrades and installations (Tarox Brakes, Swaybar and Yoko Tyres) i'm experiencing this clunking noise coming from the front right wheel well... This only happens when i'm turning left at a decent speed...

The sound was a rapid and loud CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK, until i stopped turning hard left.

When this occurred i had traction control off (if that is of any help to diagnose the issue)

I've checked the tread on the tyre to find no issues (in case of rubbing)

However given that when the car of turning left hard the right side will ride higher i can't see how rubbing would be an issue.

Turning right hard i don't have any issues...

Just curious...does it only happen when the car is cold? (Like left overnight)

I'm probably wrong but I recall many years ago when my dad used to have Pirelli P Zeros, when they would be left overnight (and cool down) the compound touching the ground would go flat to the ground and harden and as a result in the morning there was flat spots and the thump thump thump until the tyres warmed up again. Just wondering if the Yoko Tyres have the same thing, especially since their higher performance tyres have some orange skin compound that apparently sinks into the road better giving more grip...

Edit: oh just remembered you said it was one wheel only, so i guess it rules this out then...

Are you lowered? If so it could be an issue with the front swaybar. Otherwise I'd say that one I your cv's could be on its way out.

would the CV joint be covered under warranty? even though i've upgraded almost everything else?

Not with a stage 2 tune it won't. It's one of those directly related items that comes under increased stress from an ecu tune because you are putting more torque thought it. Shoot me a pm and I'll give you some further details of where you should go...

Lol probably not considering the stage 2 tune your running. High chances that has prematurely warn the cv joint bearing. Just my opinion though, your running quite a powerful setup! Then again Gavs is pretty powerful as well and has no problems (as far as I know).

Sounds sorta like the problem im having... except its from my right wheel well and only when i turn right. Im pretty much set that its coming from the CV joints..

When I had my car lowered recently. I too had a clicking sound when turning hard left only. It was mainly noticeable when parking. Took it back and turned out that they had crossed the ABS sensor and brake line on the front left wheel. Problem solved.
