  • First service prices in Sydney?

Just had the call from my dealer and they wanted $450 for the first service. It sounded like a lot to me and after me asking if they could do better they knocked 7.5% off and came back with $416.

As usual it sounds a lot for not much work (simple oil change) and a lot of checking things on a newish car. Ive only done just over 5ks

Anyone got a better price recently?

If people prefer to email or PM me that's cool, I know not everyone like to share prices online.

You should ask them if they are part of the VW capped price servicing program.

It is optional for dealers to take on the capped price but I know most in Melbourne have.

The Capped price 15,000kms service for a Polo GTi at this month is $351. (This will vary slightly from month to month depending on price of oil and consumables)

Interesting, I thought the capped price service was only available to those who bought MY13 cars and you had to take it out when you picked up the car, or do I have the wrong end of the stick?

I've got a mate that is a service manager of a dealership in country victoria and they are doing capped price servicing on all vehicles up to 5yrs old.

Metro dealers tend to do things differently. Ask your dealer if capped price applies to your vehicle and if not, why not. They want your business. There certainly isnt any money to be made in selling cars anymore so they are desperate for the service work.

                First service prices in Sydney?

Quick phone calls and the prices came in!

Obviously parts not covered by warranty are separate, for labour and GST for a first service prices are:

                - Chatswood VW $440
                - European Autotech Mona Vale $340
                - ExotiCars Parramatta $"about 300"

Looks like I made the right choice!

Hey Jon, my first service was done by exoticars for $290 IIRC. Arthur is a top bloke and I felt a whole lot more relaxed leaving my car with them than the apprentices at the dealership. VW denlo wanted $450 and not a cent off.

go independent, the dealers charge too much and go a **** job.

ive heard good things about exoticars too.

ramspeed quoted me 300, im yet to decide who is doing my first service, im probably going ramspeed, they got good rep, clean and well equiped workstation and work on some impressive cars, check out their blog

According to the VW Australia website the capped service price applies to any vehicle sold after 1 Jan 13, meaning delivered and no you didn't have to have the deal in place when the car was sold as it was only introduced a few months ago. My vehicle was delivered mid Jan and I utilised this offer on my first service 2 weeks ago. I utilised Bryan Byrt Mansfield and was very happy with the quality of service I received, they even carried out the breather hose mod (TPI) at my request without any need for a consumption test.

Thanks to all who replied, I will do some ringing round and see what is what. I will be interested if my local dealer does capped prices and didnt offer it to me... hmm...

I assume that using a non franchised dealer will mean that I cannot get warranty work done at the same time, is that right?

yeah no warranty work, but you can do ur service elsewhere and warranty service at the dealer free.

                          capped price is useless since:
                          1. independents are same or less anyway
                          2. must be on scheduled service interval

u shouldn't service at interval specified by factory, go sooner as u get better life and drive going sooner. eg, polo is every 15k, but i go every 10k because the oil is already very black and sticky at 10k. even dealers offer things like carbon flushing outside factory specs every 2nd service.

Well my car had only 6000kms on it when it was serviced. But I take your point

Dealer did it for the same price as the capped service in the end, I politely asked and reminded them that it was annoying that VWA list my car at a capped price and it felt like i was being shafted by the dealer. They saw my point and did the work for cheap. Cant argue with that. Good dealer so far imho.

I booked my mk7 Golf 90TSI manual in for its first service at the local VW dealership yesterday and when asking for a price they quoted $330. When I mentioned VW's capped price servicing they said they would be less than that and when I then said the published capped price for my model was only $292 they said they would do some inquiries. It's being serviced on Thursday so I'm interested to see what I'll be charged. This is at Wippells VW/Subaru, Toowoomba where I've always got my Forester serviced and I've always been happy with their servicing and found them to be both cheaper than other Subaru dealers as well as a local VW/Subaru independent - an ex Wippells workshop manager who seems to have a good following but did not impress me with the only service I've had there (apprentice did the oil/filter, gearbox/diff oil changes and the wheels weren't even removed so how were brake pads inspected or rotation done? And then they sprayed this sweet smelling foul stuff through the interior of my still new smelling car. And all this for a higher price than Wippells charge for the same service. Never again).

Anyway, will let you know what I've been charged after Thursday.
