Reading Lights - Glasses holder?

Hi All,

wondering if anyone knows of any OEM or custom glasses holders that will fit in the top center section of the polo, where the reading lights go? The existing plastic panel pulls off quite easily, and there is stacks of room behind it... but its just not used!!

Would be awesome to be able to stick my sunnies in there..

The one in your link will probably fit. And for $24 why not just buy it. Could always resell it on here anyway.

Very interesting! It's so obvious that the blank area near the lights was intended for an optional sunglasses holder and the piece of plastic that covers it is merely a 'filler'. Tempted to buy this and give it a go. @iigx, what was behind the cover? Any screw holes or clips? Could you take some photos? Would be interesting to see!

Something I planned on investigating is if the MK6 golf cubby hole would fit in because when you pull the cover off, there is just a great big hole behind it...

It does not. The MkVI holder is too big. And the VII I had yesterday didn't have one there :S

I've looked thoroughly into an OEM solution (there was another thread on this) and the result was there's nothing. The "sunglasses holder" is supposedly in the glove-box (mine has a two-sided cleaning cloth in it) but since it's got no soft edges, all I see it doing is giving you cabin noise and scratched lenses and frames.

The odd thing is - as was pointed out - it looks like this spot behind the lights was meant for something. But I can't figure out what.
Sunroof controls aren't located there on cars with that option :S

Yep I was looking at retrofitting the holder from MK6 in that thread about a year ago. Doesn't fit in our 6Rs. Its about 2-3mm too wide and 5mm too deep. There also isn't the required clips to keep held in place either. Silly of them not to make it the same size....

I think I started a thread like this ages ago... and since then I have always been on the look out but nothing, that and a white on black climate control unit...lol. It's completely silly. I reckon it's another reason why if they did it would be another reason why no one would buy the Golf.

The only thing I thought of was with the new up bring of 3D printers maybe somewhere someone could print out an exact mold of it.... thats all I have thought of.

I thought along the same lines.

Or, attempt to get a replacement cover through VW parts, and see if it's possible to use the mounting frame/bracket that comes with it as a base, cut around the inside edge, and fabricate a new one.
At the end of the day though, it's a lot of effort. Would gladly pay someone a chunk of change for one, especially if it's rubber/felt/sound-proof lined

I have got one and tried. Fail.
There are gaps at each end and the flap will not open properly

How in gods name do you clean it?
I look at my roof or sunvisors funny and they get filthy

The sunvisors tend to strip the skin off my fingers, when ever i go to move it or anything there is this white trace left behind.
