  • More Power!

    Hi All,

I'm chasing ideas as to how i can get more power out of my baby. Check out my current mods in my sig. I'm working on traction by buying some Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08's...

What else can i do? A new turbo is the simple solution but i have nobody who can write a tune to suit it as APR don't seem to be able to do anything to help...

    Cheers,

    Josh

im not even sure if they are still around but maybe try powerchip for a tune? a mate of mine used to work there years ago and back then they had a pretty awesome team. one of the guys was a savant and pioneered a lot of industry firsts. could write tunes directly in hex.

short of that you might have to start looking at a Golf R or similar project. not sure if the new ones are even out.

There is a skoda running at least 400hp in europe out of the 1.4tsi but you need to understand one thing before you go chasing big power on this platform.

There is a reason APR pulled the pin on the stage 3 of this drivetrain and if they don't want to chase it with their budget, then you are going to need very, VERY bloody deep pockets.

Sy over in the UK has a Fabia RS that was putting out close to 320HP from memory, Guy harding has even been over and seen this car. The way that these drivelines are built/controlled is very complex and even though he was soooo close to getting the car right, he gave up because after several long months with the stage 3 setup nearly right, they just could not get the thing to stop misfiring at the upper rev range.

Think of budgeting around $15,000-$20,000 if you can find someone that will right you an entirely bespoke tune. It took the guys in greece about 18 months of continual development to get it right for one car. You will also need to do a full engine break down and rebuild with pistons that you can't actually buy anymore without some major ass-kissing, rings, re-hone of the block because the pistons are slightly oversize from memory, new radiator, intercooler, port work, turbo, injectors, spark plugs, R8 coilpacks (seem to work better than the Okada ones), then look at the uprated DSG software and clutches from greece which are in development so you get more than 5000kms out of the car then you need to prepare for the next things down the driveline to start failing prematurely like CV joints etc with the extra grunt going through them.

I say go for it, but only because it's not my wallet being emptied. if I won lotto tomorrow, i'd love to kepe the GTI and turn it into a hill-climb little monster with all this stuff to go on because a 400hp polo gti is just mental

          Buy a 2.0TSI?

As they say, there is no replacement for displacement.

There are massive restrictions in the cylinder head, turbo manifold, and the valve springs won't be up to the task for a genuine (real) 300hp. You can put any size turbo on there & that is the first thing you will run into unfortunately.

                Cheers for the info everyone!

Realistically, it's starting to sound like a dead end apart from a few obvious handling upgrades...

No replacement for displacement maybe the next move

                Cheers,

Hi guys, just wondering is it possible to push power at the fly to around 200kw without installing a hybrid turbo and if so reliable for some occasional track day and spirited driving??

I don't think you'd be able to get anywhere near that with the std turbo

                        Especially on a 1.4
The 1.8's needed stage 3 to crack the 200kw mark from memory.

200kw from a street-engine 1.4 would be very impressive, if you found an effective way to do it without re-engineering half the engine, I think you'd end up with a rev-range point where the supercharger is maxed and the turbo is not yet spooling well.

For that sort of coin, you then are going to need to address the traction issues with a LSD (I'd have about 140-150 atw and this is a reason I'm not looking for more), so there goes another grand for the LSD before you fit it, etc.

                            2 options;
                            - Be crazy and be prepared to empty your pockets with unknown results
                            - Buy a used R for around 40-45k and have more power and traction to suit.
