We originally looked at the new Nissan Pulsar and the Honda Jazz, but the Polo just seems to be a better buy. The main thing I'm concerned about is reliability, so I'd like to hear what some of you owners out there have to say. Thanks!
Let me firstly say that I own a Passat 125TDI and have had no problems with it, but I think you have answered your own question. I also know that what I am about to say maybe considered by some as a little sexist, but how would you feel if your younger sister was left stranded. I know that this can happen in all cars regardless of manufacturer, but you seem concerned about the Polo and not the Jazz or Pulsar.

It is all about perception and risk management. That is why I never sell any of my cars to friends or family. No matter how reliable it was with me it could become a lemon as soon as I sell it.

I owned a 2011 tdi dsg polo, over 120ks, gearbox did fail at 70ks, replaced by vw with no issue... just replaced with a 2013 tdi dsg, pick up this week...

I own a 2011 tdi manual polo, over 80ks, not one single issue, will replace later in the year...

Not sure why there is diesel on the pump handles, maybe tradesmen are a little lazy or clumsy, comes out of the pump and into the car the same as petrol...

I own a driving school and the polos are used for that purpose. I have never had a student who couldnt drive the dsg, nor complain about it. Also keep in mind my cars get a hard time, and even when im driving them i drive pretty hard and enjoy them, so think reliability is a media beat up... as others have said, all manufacturers have issues from time to time and some cars fail...
