  • Polo 6R bluetooth recode question

Sorry for asking this guys as I'm sure it's covered in another thread. I did read all the stickies and think i know the answer but want to confirm before spending money.

We purchased a polo 77tsi earlier in the year and love the car... apart from the bluetooth. It is intermittent to say the least. Sometimes our phones connect, sometimes they do not. From all i can tell this is the same bluetooth unit as in my golf (which works perfectly) so i don't believe it's the fault of the unit, but rather that stupid little dock relay.

Now, if I have understood correctly, if I purchase an rcd510 unit I can then control the phone directly through it for music and calls rather then through the Bury dock? There seems to be different versions of the rcd510, can any one adviser which i would need for a MY12 polo?

Also via some recoding with a vagcom the need for the dock can be over ridden so we can leave it out and just use the head unit?

Have I misunderstood or does this sound correct?

    Thanks for any help.

I dont know what the dock is that you are talking about, but from an RCD510 perspective, once you tell the car that you have BT (which you must already do) there is no need to code the RCD, it will just work. All the Australian ones have the 'phone' button I am pretty sure (i have seen some O/S ones that don't) which will work fine. I even think the RCD310's work also?

I know its not the same but the principle should be, I have an RCD310 which I can send you if you like to try, but I have to get the code for it first as its out of the mother in laws car and you would need the code to make it work, but its always an option

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)

      Hi,

Thanks for the reply. All 2012 onwards VW's come with this special touchscreen bluetooth adapter which in essence is just a Bury "dock" (http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ers-79639.html). AFAIK these were added in 2012 as my golf does not have one It's this relay that seems to cause most of my issues.

Thanks for the offer on the RCD310, as you said they should work pretty well with the bluetooth system but there seems to be a setting somewhere in VAGCOM which tells the bluetooth to not turn on unless the touch adapter is in its dock. However when i put it in the dock it sometimes connects, sometimes doesnt, sometimes freezes etc. etc. Im pretty sure this is what is causing my issue.

I found an older post in a search that someone "Recoded" their Polo GTI to operate without the touch adapter. They then instead used their RCD510 to control their phone (which it apparently is more than capable of doing).

I was just looking for someone who had actually gone through this process so I could see what was needed. When I asked my dealer they looked at my blankly...

        Polo 6R bluetooth recode question

Yes there's a VCDS code change required - well documented in the other thread(s). I haven't tried it yet, will be doing it this weekend - if it works & you're in Sydney, happy to help do yours.

Very interested to hear how it goes. I just lot a bit of confidence when my dealer told me it wasnt possible.

Am in Sydney, so may take you up on that offer one day.

Certainly is possible, dealers are typically full of s.... I have an RCD510 installed and the Bluetooth touch adaptor disabled and couldn't be happier with how that setup is working!

Based on my experience with the GTI's setup -
You should not need to re-code unless you want to remove the Touch Adaptor.
The re-code means that when you remove the Touch Adaptor your MFD doesn't display "REPLACE TOUCH ADAPTOR" it does not affect how your phone connects to the MFD

Have you followed the steps in the other thread about pairing your phone directly to the MFD?

At the moment, I have the Touch adaptor in the cradle, but pair my phone straight to the MFD. That worked without needing a VCDS re-code.

Apologies, I could have swore I replied to this thread.

Removing the touch adapter is exactly what I want to do.

I have connected it directly to VW PHONE but am still having the above mentioned problems. It sounds like this solved the issue for you? My Mfd never displays that message. I believe you need the full mfd for it?

Btw for all its worth the original thread was an excellent thread. Perhaps it's just me but I was just a little lost on a couple items as the mfd on the gti seems a ton more informative than the cut down one the tsi has.

I want to ensure i do is buy the right version of the rcd510 (apparently there are several) so the car will otherwise operate as it does now (rds, bluetooth, iPhone cable etc.) But without the adapter.

I'm still hoping (assuming) that's what's causing the problem. My underlying issue is that the phone doesn't connect to the bluetooth about 50% of the time.
