  • Rain/Headlight Sensor

    Hi all

Pardon my ignorance - i read the user manual its all abit confusing
Just took delivery of my 13.5 Polo GTI

when i test drove the GTI in early March - i notice it had no LED running lights
Mine does - does this mean there was an upgrade? prolly is!

Also - i am trying to get my head around the auto headlights... how on earth do you get them to work? i finally figured out the auto wipers!!

Sorry - my first venture into these automatic thingies... not sure..

    Thanks heaps!!

My guess is you've purchased a car with optional xenon headlights, which come with LED DRLs. I didn't realise that auto lights were even an option? Does your light switch have an "Auto" position on it, as well as the standard sidelight/headlight positions?

Seems like you are implying you have factory halogens with LED DRL with Auto switch??

There is no auto headlights offered as an option on Australian delivered polos. If you have led drl's then you are either very lucky or you just got stung by your dealer who whacked a $1600 option on your car without your knowledge

The Manual is written for ALL models and you will find that there are lots of things in there you wont find on Aussie cars.

I spent a fair while looking for non existent things LOL

You sure you didn't pay for them? Was it built to order or one that was already in stock?

To get auto lights working you would have to have a light sensor which as I understand it is built into the same unit that detects rain on your windscreen (sits in front of your rear view mirror).

It may be as simple as installing the correct switch and enabling an option in VCDS. However given its a Polo you would need to check that you won't have to upgrade other modules to get the function going.

I think you scored on this one.

I'd be interested to see what you paid for your car, if you don't mind sharing. That would give us a clue as to whether the dealer threw in xenons or not. I'd be surprised if they included them free of charge for a factory order. Also, I see that you also have a sunroof, which is another expensive option. Anything else non-standard?
