VW Aust extend transmission warranties

In the Heral today is a story about a recall of the DSG 7 speed overseas.

Doesnt help hear but it does say that VW Aust extended the warranty on ALL transmissions to 5 yeas / 150,000kms

"But the local arm of the German giant acknowledges problems with its Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) and has lengthened the warranty covering all transmissions from three years and 100,000 kilometres to five years and 150,000 kilometres in response to customer concern"

Does anyone have any detail on this?
The actual notification document number??
I assume this applies to not just new cars?

My GTi is 2 years old and has had the clutches replaced a year ago.
Would be nice to know that I have another 3 years cover

Not always. I think the warranty was extended early this year.

Yes, it applies to All gearboxes and drive trains built after around 2009 I think. Even includes manual 'boxes.

No I think they're trying to keep it quiet so they can keep selling pricey extended warranties haha

Dealer told me it's not guaranteed on cars built before 2013 (reviewed on case by case basis to determine if a goodwill warranty job will be done) - so check with your local dealer.

Do you mean calendar date 2013 i.e from 1st Jan 2103, or MY13? I wonder if this will extend across the ditch to Volkswagen NZ?

Think he meant calendar (delivery date on or after 1 Jan 2013) as that would go along with other warranty and servicing changes beginning from that date.

Where does date of purchase fit into this, I wonder? My new MY13 GTI, purchased last month, was built in mid-Dec 2012, which is pretty quick to market for this part of the world, but 2 other "new" MT13 GTIs I was offered by the dealer were built in Aug and Sep 2012. Seems a bit harsh to be buying a car built 9 months ago, purchased yesterday, but it's not covered by the extended warranty because it wasn't built in 2013.

Actually it could be 2013 onwards does NOT get the extended warrantee. I only say this because the new part was made in feb this year (so there should be no problems...haha) but cars made before this still have the faulty part. My car is a MY12 (July 2011) and I have the extended drivetrain warrantee.

The Transmission Warranty for passenger vehicles is for 5 years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first.

It's not some super secret thing, it's on the website & the info is being promoted by the dealers. If you want to know if your car is covered, call VW or your dealer.
