Seriously, given your comments, I'd have a look at a 9N3 Pacific TDi for interest if nothing else.

I'm OFF-TOPIC now, but I have a folder full of pics like this: every powered vehicle should be captured at its max performance...

Look at this: it's a little scooter that I usually load on my RV for quick travels, it's a Peugeot Ludix, 0.05 liters, the Italian code limits this veicle at 45Km/h max, but removing a little washer from the variator.........

The 1.9 PD engine only came out with the 9N3 down here and it only had 100bhp (74kW). Apparently, they can be remapped to reliably produce 130bhp (100kW)

I have a 12.5 GTI and this is what I also experience. I accelerate and hear the engine struggle, the telltale 'crackle' (for want of a better word) that it needs to drop down a gear, then off she goes leaving a big cloud of smoke obscuring the car behind. I have also noticed the smoke from a standstill where there is a slight pause in acceleration then off she goes like the clappers and when I look in the rear view mirror theres the smoke. I do have high oil usage, I dont know if this is related though.

Generally though, besides its bad smoking habit and high oil use, she runs well. Its much more enjoyable to drive than the wifes boat err Mondeo.

To the best of my knowledge, the following vehicles (within the Volkswagen Group) were installed with the 1.9 PD TDI in Australia:

                      AUDI
                      A3 (2007-2010)
                      BLS - 77 kW/250 Nm with DPF

                      SKODA
                      Octavia (2007-2011)
                      BXE - 77 kW/250 Nm

                      Roomster (2007-2010)
                      BSW - 77 kW/240 Nm

                      VOLKSWAGEN
                      Polo (2005-2010)
                      AXR - 74 kW/240 Nm

                      Golf (2004-2009)
                      BKC - 77 kW/250 Nm
                      BXE - 77 kW/250 Nm

                      Beetle (2005-2011)
                      BSW - 77 kW/250 Nm

                      Caddy (2005-2010)
                      BJB - 77 kW/250 Nm
                      BLS - 77 kW/250 Nm with DPF

                      Kombi (2005-2008 )
                      AXB - 77 kW/250 Nm

                      Transporter (2004-2010)
                      AXB - 77 kW/250 Nm

Of course, the 2.0 PD TDI was popular here as well.

And in Europe, the 1.9 PD TDI was fitted in a lot more models than those listed above, though that goes without saying.

Since the above discussion was about 9N Polos, I would have thought that it was obvious that the context of my comment related to the AXR engine in the 9N3 being the sole 1.9 PD variant amongst the 9N Polos that made it down under (to Australia by the official distributor)

Just before I was about to post my list, I re-read the thread and only then did I realise what the context was, haha.

Oh well... but having spent 10 minutes on it, I decided to post it anyway - who knows, maybe it will be of use to someone.

My MY13 CAV engined Gti has started doing this also, takeoff in 'D', car short shifts straight away into 2nd, light throttle application, detonation 'crackle' noise, then smoke out the back. My smoke is is mainly blue (oil). I've had oil consumption 'issues' since service muppets changed timing chain a few months ago (maybe 5 lt. in 4,000k's). I'm tempted to ring them up and tell them whats happening, but I know all they are going to say is 'bring it in, sorry all our courtesy cars are currently taken, please catch the bus for two weeks while we find the time to figure out what's wrong and then forget to call you to let you know whats going on for an additional three weeks.' I'm going to keep driving it until it fails spectacularly in a cloud of blue smoke and pistons punching through crankcases. If i take it to them now they will just bodge it up again and give it back. It's alarming how quickly its burning through the oil in its sump, detonation ins't a nice noise and I'm afraid the the damage has already been done.
