I wonder what the excuse will be from VWAG....oh oh...it was built in....damn the Singapore variant gearbox and mechatronics is from the same country as the ones in the Australian variants...*gets jetpack*
I don't get it... they are just replacing mechatronics units on affected cars (how do they know they are affected unless the customer complains?). Hasn't that been done here under warranty to little avail?
There is no point in a recall if they don't have a proper fix.
I suppose this draws a line in the sand. Replace the "faulty" mechatronics, say that the new generation is fault free, then if someone complains afterwards they can say they have done all they can.
Yeah but are they just goin to keep throwing useless software updates at the cars?! In my opinion, for them to fix this problem, this is what they have to do:
1) replace bell housing to take DQ250
2) fit DQ250 and all relevant hardware/software.
3) recomply all vehicles with dq200 to have gvm, axle weights etc revised as well as fuel consumption figures with dq250
4) issue a formal apology for all owners and as compensation, offer to buy back the vehicles at market value upon vehicle sale/trade in on any VW model of car, not offer trade in price regardless of condition.

There's no point in doing a recall unless you've got a permanent fix for the problem. Otherwise you keep on replacing parts until they're out of warranty and its no longer manufacturers problem anymore.
Just a pity for poor people that keep/buy the vehicle outside warranty and of course resale takes a hiding.
66 TDI, 77TSI and GTI's DQ - 200's are installed in South Africa / Spain (GTI). What a joke when Gehling said "I don't know whether these cars gearboxes were sourced from Europe" these muppets need a cold hard class action up their sorry back sides.

The line I liked is that they do EVERYTHING for their customers to fix the issues. Pfffffffft

Even if he did not know, it would be very easy to find out. Regardless of his true business ability, this guy is coming across as incompetent and lazy if nothing else. If I had an employee that worked in the same way this guy comes across, I'd sack him (though that is moot since I would not have employed him in the first place).

So have been thinking about the comments made in the second article. Japan is blaming their hot weather.
I wonder if Ulrich Hackenberg could answer why my DSG got up to an operating temperature of 375 degrees when normal operating temperature is 150? It's not because of our hot climate is it????

So basically the worst thing we can do to our gearbox is drive in stop/start traffic on a hot summer day. I've seen the intake temps jump beyond 60 even on just warm-ish days because there's no strong airflow - wonder if the DSG reacts similarly.
