Could be many things. Could be an O2 sensor, throttle body error, acceratitor pedal error, excessive misfiring...hundreds of things, it covers most things excluding most gearbox issues which has a separate warning light.
If you have VCDS you can easily see which part is playing up.

Gah, thanks mate.
Anyone in Sydney, mascot area have VCDS and availible to do a diagnostic sometime today? Would prefer not to take it to the dealership right now with CAI etc on it2001 S4 Matte Charcoal metallic | M6 | MTM tuned | Zinram 3.5inch catback | SRM SMIC's | ST Coilovers | Work Meister S13p's

Yesterday I noticed a rattle when I left work. Engine was cold and got to about 3000rpm and a sound like something lose occurred but then nothing, had full power once warmed up then this morning engine light is constantly on.
So I can just call vw assist and nrma will come check it out? Never used it before, whats the process?2001 S4 Matte Charcoal metallic | M6 | MTM tuned | Zinram 3.5inch catback | SRM SMIC's | ST Coilovers | Work Meister S13p's

Well that was quick. Called and he was here in 15minutes.
Got an error code, can anyone explain what it is?
P0556: Performance or range in brake booster pressure sensor circuit.
Any relation to wheel spacers?2001 S4 Matte Charcoal metallic | M6 | MTM tuned | Zinram 3.5inch catback | SRM SMIC's | ST Coilovers | Work Meister S13p's

Well that's not too serious. Not to say its not bad but it can still be driven. Just means you will have no brake assist or esp because the computer doesn't know how much you are breaking for it to raise the pressure. Because the brake booster runs from the vacuum of the engine you probably won't notice any difference to the braking.
Still feel free to fiddle around with the sensor cable which is on the back brake booster (which is a big black disc with the brake fluid reservoir on top) try fiddling with the cable, might have just come loose...
You done a 30,000km service recently? I know they flush the brake fluid so maybe they hit something...

Well drove home, absolutely no loss of power or any strange noises. Brakes felt normal too which is good, I feel a bit safer knowing everything is working.
I'll be calling vw to book it in for a fix sometime this week.
Is it worth removing my apr tune and cai seeing as its an unrelated problem?2001 S4 Matte Charcoal metallic | M6 | MTM tuned | Zinram 3.5inch catback | SRM SMIC's | ST Coilovers | Work Meister S13p's

Depending on the dealer you should be right with the CAI, but i would be removing the tune and having the factory binary reflashed ASAP. Problem is though mate, if the dealership isn't friendly and wants to screw you, they will instantly know it's your car if they look on teh forum. I can't imagine there are too many stealth grey gti's around with aristos....sigpic
