MY13 POLO Colours options Metallic / Pearl Effect !!

Paints have come a long way in the last 20 odd years & most 'pearl' paint on production cars these days is only a 2 layer system the same as metallic paint. It's a lot easier to match too & most competent Spray painters should be able do a repair without it standing out.
It sounds like you have just had the black pearl paint thrown in & not itemised on your docket.
Yes, the black would be the only 'pearl' effect colour offered & the rest are metallic if thats what it says in the brochure I'd say.

You don't choose a colour and then add metallic or pearl – it comes with the colour in the first place.Alex Aescht

Alex is correct, the ONLY black available on the Polo is called "Deep Pearl Black" which is a pearlescent, metallic black.
There is no ifs or bits about it. Just to make it clear, THERE IS ONLY ONE BLACK AVAILABLE ON THE POLO. If you have paid more than the standard markup (whatever it is) then you have been screwed by a VW dealership. Surprise surprise, welcome to buying a VW.sigpic

All cars can be
Candy White
Flash Red
Deep Black (Pearl)
Reflex Silver
Then non-GTIS can be:
Ocean Blue or
Pepper Grey
And only the GTI can be:
Shadow Blue Metallic
So 5 colour choices for the GTI and 6 for the non GTIsMY13 Polo GTI, also Candy White with pleather

There's an Oryx pearl white (that matches mine and scobb's) for sale on Trade Me here in Kiwiland:
Volkswagen POLO GTI 2013 | Trade Me
Photos don't do it justice. The worrying bit is selling after 2,750 km, and 3 months - no mention of any issues, just selling "to get a car for family". I wonder....

Indeed, that's identical to mine! Interesting that he's asking more for it than I paid new.
I wonder if it's a CTHE or CAVE engine? Of the 3 MY13 cars available to me when I bought mine a month ago, 1 was CAVE and 2 were CTHE. Mine's a CTHE built Dec 2012. I'd certainly be checking that detail if I was interested in buying.
I also wonder why did VW NZ bring in these cars with the special paint? I for one am pleased they did, but it seems strange. As 2PoloGuy says, the photos don't do justice to the lovely metallic white fleck that just sparkles in the sun.

Re his asking price, don't forget we all bought during the VWNZ Summer Polo offer - the list without extras was $37,900 (incl the Detroits which were previously extra $400). I imagine that's the current retail again.
Hope yours is sans problems.

Very interesting info, thanks. I'm surprised the Japanese spec and NZ spec would be identical. Given the Sep date you mention, I'd doubt my car was part of that cancelled order, given it wasn't built until mid-Dec and purchased mid-Apr, just after the summer price special finished, but some hard negotiation got the price down to NZ$36,100 including the xenons and paint. Oh, and touch wood, one month into ownership and only 550KMs, and all is well so far.
