I have no idea what quality differences may exist between a Chinese sourced DSG v a German made one (although I might be able to guess), but I'm not sure what an Australian recall would do - given the number of multiple failures it just seems to be a fragile box.
Same applies to the 118tsi engines - great idea, but again multiple failures in some cases indicating design issues, as VW don't seem to have answers on fixing it besides replacement.
So the gamble goes on..

If VW Australia recalls them, what are they going to replace them with?
If the Chinese DSGs were locally built they may have had a production fault leading to one specific issue. There seem to be a lot of different quirks and problems in the German built DSGs, it does appear to be like they say that no two are the same.
I'm on my second DSG car in a Polo GTI after having a Mk5 2.0 TDI, it worked fine up to when I sold it at 170,000kms.
If I wanted to sit there and listen and get paranoid about every little thing I read about online though, I could. But in reality it performed flawlessly.Last edited by dening; 23-04-2013, 11:33 PM.

Normal operating temp should be around 150 degrees on the dry clutch - I know mine has notched nearly 400! Clearly, the design is spot on!Polo GTI - 5 door - Candy White, Xenons, Comfort Package, Audio Upgrade, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors and Tint

Karl Gehling, if by chance you are smart enough to actually look upon this forum of the biggest support community for your product in the country, may I suggest this.
Make sure that what you have said is 100% accurate because as you may know, there is a product called VCDS on the market that many of own. Part of that system has a function that can tell you the build plant code for specific components in said vehicle. If by chance, a member of the community has found a list of the build plant designations from across the globe and it shows that a single australian delivered vehicle with a DQ200 gearbox has a DSG not out of Germany, things might just turn rather pear shaped......sigpic

I've just set Matt a love letter; I imparted the story of a family members DSG nightmare with their 7 speed.
The are up to their 5th mechantronics unit, 3rd set of clutch packs - first of the mk6 2009 Golf 118TSI.
It still drives like a total pig. It's a puzzling problem.

VWA might not want to initiate a recall or extend the warranty on the units, but it would be up to the ACCC as to whether one is mandated.
The fact is that a precedent has been established, and assuming the transmissions are the same, the precedent would require the coverage to be extended to Australia.
Maybe VWA is more worried about the implications where they have denied any problems and owners have had to pay for repairs themselves.

Go online and lodge a complaint using the following form:
General complaints form
It is the only way that the ACCC will do anything.
