What would your next car be after the Polo GTI?

Interesting how many want to move to the S3 from the Polo Gti.

I should say that I did consider getting a new model Polo GTi but two things... one I need a larger car and fancy a change, otherwise i would just keep my MY12.5 as its only just run in. But.... sad to say I also didnt gel with the newer model... I wrote down my thoughts and found that it was better in some areas but worse in others than my older model... and after 10 days I was glad to have my car back, the 1.4 engine is just so revvy and fun even in D, wheras I had to run the MY15 in S to get anything near as much 'drive'. Im sure 6C owners enjoy their cars but after an extended test drive I just know that I would always miss the older engine if i just bought a new one thats for sure.

So, my search continues... tried the WRX CVT today. I live in the busiest part of Sydneys awful roads it seems so new car has to be auto sadly. Ive had a few manuals (Caterham, Alfa etc) the past few years and it sucked here. Have to say that the WRX CVT was frankly amazing for a CVT and the car drove very well, suspension seems less hard than the 6R as I detected bodyroll much to salesman's astonishment. We did fang it down some loose, pot holey roads with no cars on which was fun, but I felt that it was not as fast using my 'seat of the pants dyno' as Id have liked but I remember from the old one I had that it never felt fast when driving, but you always arrived at your destination earlier than you expected, so it covered ground like a boss.

Anyone have any thoughts on other cars to try round 50k or less? Im happy to guinepig if they sound interesting...

Good thoughts, I did wonder about the Golf, but sitting in one at the dealer (i was there this morning) it felt very much like I was just in a more modern and larger Polo, I was hoping for a different view from the seat really. I should try one tho, youre right, ta for reminding me.

Mk6R By the looks of things. Not sure if i want to Mod my Polo Gti as it is clunking and playing up at 6200kms, Will get it fixed by VW then sell it to my Mum who needs a new car. Ive heard the DSG Tune and Apr Stage 1 make the car totally different, But that is pretty much the maximum can get out of a Polo.

Will be looking for a Stage 2 Minimum Mk 6 R now, Know anyone here/anyone selling one here?

Yep thats one from left field... I never consider Volvo as Im a biker LOL, but worth a look this weekend I reckon. Focus RS is a bit too much coin, but tempting... tho Ford isnt the most reliable brand of course and no one has a demo of that car right now.

Or have a look at the Focus ST can get the mount tune pack for it now as well

Just looked over the Volvo site and the reviews, I think its more than my budget but interesting car I hadnt considered.

I've looked at the ST at the local dealer, but like the RS its manual only sadly. The newer ones with the better dash are really quite nice inside I thought, great seats of course.

Decision made.... bought a WRX.

Bye bye lil Polo... we loved you again once all the problems were fixed, but it was time to move on.

FYI to anyone looking to trade a MY12.5 Gti, the values (like on all VWs right now) are pretty horrible for such a great lil car. We got a cracking overall deal so im not complaining too much but yeah, well, ouch. But we all knew this I reckon. I'll amend my sign off I guess... Thanks to all the great blokes ive met on this forum, all walks of life yet a common bond.
