  • Have had contact with a source RE Renault EDC and let's just say that there is a lot of nervousness and apprehension around with this box, even though it's made by Getrag and not Borg Warner. Hopefully I can find out a bit more after the launch which I think is slated for 1st week December...

Yeah, not confident that reliability will be any better.

Interesting thought, but I would more likely go for a Golf GTI. But I really like the cost savings of the Polo, in terms of fuel economy and purchase price.

My concern about keeping the car out of warranty has less to do with oil consumption than clutches that keep wearing out every 18k kms... I can't get someone to estimate the cost of replacement, but I can't imagine it would be less than $2000-3000. (Oil is a piddling $80 per year, by comparison).

But it seems like the Polo GTI fits the bill best. Maybe the thing to do is trade in for a newer model... Lease, this time so I pay only for what I use (plus interest). Usually buying is the more economical solution, but not when the resale value takes such a big hit, and reliability plagues you...

Yeah by going with the Q3 you have a pretty good chance of it lasting. Both the 2L ea288 (or is it a ea88 engines have pretty good reliability just look at the golf r / sirocco / GTI and many others.

Also the dq500 wet clutch 7speed DSG hasn't had any faults to date If I recall - but then again it has only been in full operational service for the past year - so far so good though

Hope you enjoy it, it's a fantastic car!

If you can salary sacrifice and keep the car in good condition you shouldnt have too much trouble in saving money. Even though my employer will only sal sac with one of the more expensive companies I'm still looking at saving a few thousand. You still have to pay all the maintenance costs but in pre tax dollars, plus you get fleet discount on purchase price and about 10c/litre discount on fuel. But you have to pay lease company costs and fbt. My calcs before purchase were that it would be about $2000 cheaper over the 3yr lease than getting a loan assuming I keep the car and pay the $8000 residual. I'm hoping I can get at least that much as a trade on a 2015 manual gti (dreams? even a 5 speed ffs VW).

The thing I like best about the lease is that I dont get the massive hit of rego/insurance/service every 12 months. Its all balanced out and my pay packet stays the same all year round. Of course if you are a disciplined saver you can do that for yourself, but if my wallet has $10 in it I'm wondering what I can buy with it.

                  • Just came from a late Breakfast and noticed there is already a Renault Clio RS EDC press car, I didn't have time to take a photo as my reaction was piss poor xD

But from a sound perspective, its fairly on par to the Golf GTI MK6 with a noticeable EDC fart from the exhaust.

                    Edit:

Word is the CLIO RS will have 3 Variants now:

                    Clio RS Sport

                    Clio RS Cup

                    and now...

Clio RS Cup Trophy (I'm guessing this is a fully optioned Cup).

Damn, that is one sexy car. Looks excellent in that colour with the gloss-black Talladega's. My brother had one of these and it was a phenomenal car. Gorgeous to drive!

I wonder if the Nissan Juke-R or Nismo - RS come with a dual clutch setup...?
