Polo GTI Low Oil Usage - Anyone else?

Finally did my used oil analysis on my car. Done 18,000km and oil mileage is only 3000km using normal USA formula Mobil1 5w30. After I drained out, I trying out another 504/507 specs oil and this time Mobil1 5w30ESP formulation. I have done 900km and oil never moved on the dip stick! I will be sticking to this oil and extend the oil drain interval to 10,000km instead of 5000km.

Checked my oil level last night and it's halfway down the hatched section on the dipstick. 14,800km since delivery in mid-January. Had it topped up when I took it in for it's 1,500km check up and the bloke reckons he put 'about a litre' in it then (which subsequently appeared to be an over-fill). Oil is noticeably darker now but will be replaced on Friday when it gets its first real service at 15,000km.

I've been pondering all of the variables that might explain why some 6R GTIs absolutely DEVOUR oil while others - like mine it would seem - barely sip it. One variable that might make me an outlier is that my daily commute totals roughly 100km on predominantly freeways and 80-100k semi-rural roads. It's very unusual for me to do short trips and even more rare that I am subjected to stop/start driving.

Anyone else have the same driving profile as me but still suffer high oil consumption?

Can anyone confirm which oil is the best for the car?

I'm using what the oil cap tells me to use, Castrol Edge?

This is interesting though - your 12.5 would have a CAVE engine I'm guessing? If yes, have you had the breather pipe mod done and has the rate of consumption changed over time (i.e. heavier usage in first 5-10K, lessening after that)?

The flipside question is - does anyone do mostly short trips in stop/start driving with similarly low oil consumption?

Yep CAVE engine, no breather mods, no particular change in consumption, maybe a little more in first 5000k's but it would be line ball.

Quick report of my last 10.000Kms:

_At 12.500Kms I changed by myself engine oil (Bardhal C60 LS 5W30) and oil filter (VW original): I filled till the end of zone "A" (see greed arrow of the pic).

_Now I'm at 22.500Kms, the oil is now on the yellow arrow (five dots under max level)



I guess that with about 0.5 liter I should restore the original level.
For a complete report: at 13.800Kms I changed the breather pipe.

Looking at this pic, mine has just gone below the 2nd row of dots from full. I had my Car in may 2013, I've done 1700~ miles, so 2735.884kms. I do a 25 mile journey to work (50 mile round trip), bit of stop/start, dual/motorways.

4000 km now and oil level is two notch levels down from full. Does anybody know what that relates to in mL used? I have some Penrite enviro + in the back with the spare wheel should I ever need to top up but it would be nice to know how much to add given what's indicated on the stick.

The whole notched area is about 1 liter, by memory I think there are about 12 or 13 notches, so two notches are about 150ml...
