Polo GTI Low Oil Usage - Anyone else?

When is the best time to check the oil level? If I follow the manual and check a few minutes after shutdown the level is lower than if I leave it for an hour. I'm a little concerned to fill it above the top of the crosshatch (just after shutdown) as an hour later it will be at the top of the A mark. I don't want it to be in the overfill area when oil is cold

Wanna give more details to my low oil usage journal.
Trying to bring this thread alive. Swapped out the factory oil after using hard run in method and replaced with normal USA made
Mobil1 5W30 at 500km, 1000km, 3000km, 8000km and 12000km. Oil lost only moved like 1-2mm on the dipstick everytime.
Around 12,000km, I got itchy and decided to buy 4 quarts of Pennzoil Euro L 5w30 504/507 approval oil to try as I was not very happy with the oil temp cooling time taken on the Mobil1. After 1000km, I already seen 1-2mm drop, I check again at 2000km and it dropped till the middle mark of the knurled section. I was worried and ordered the new ventilation pipe with the "AD" code and grey check valve.
I drained out the Pennzoil after 3000km, I was down to 1/3 on the knurled mark and replace the ventilation pipe(no ECU updates).
Around 15000km, replaced back with normal Mobil1 5w30 and check every 500km on the dipstick, no oil lost at all. Done 3000km, oil level has not moved on the dipstick. I actually got worried as it should burn some oil or due to blow by. With previous experience with "ASNU" fuel injection diagnostic, I recall a scenario that an engine can have so much blow bys that fuel gets into the oil sump and makes the oil level seems ok. I need to clear my fears so I decided to drain the oil out at 3000km and send it for used oil analysis.
At 18000km, updated the ECU and DSG software, time taken was around 2hours+ as its never been updated before.
I also decided to try another VW504/507 approval oil, since I have good experiences with Mobil1, I decided to try the Mobil1 5w30ESP series. These comes in 1L bottle so I pour in 3.8L which ends up at the top of A mark. Going to check oil level every 500km.
Attached are the photos of my oil level at 18000km before it was drained, sorry for the poor quality as taken from a normal camera phone.

I wouldn't be too concerned, keeping in mind that vw engines do burn some oil by design and you haven't fully run in yet. I burnt about 700ml up til 5.5k. Did my own oil change at that point and changed to penrite enviro 5w-35 504/507 and have used another 250ml to 9.7k. 1L/10k I'm happy with that on a CTH.

I think we've been pretty lucky with our GTi. It's an April 2012 build (delivered to us September 2012), just ticked on 15,000kms and we've had to top up with about 1L of oil in that time. It goes in for its first (15,000km) service this Wednesday. The oil is terribly black, but, that's what VW recommend. I think we'll change it every 5,000kms after this change.

CTH engine, MY13. Wasn't sure whether to post in the low or high oil consumption thread, neither really at this stage.
Topped up a litre at 3061km, now at at 4100km and it hasn't budged so far.
Where I post next will depend on how the next couple of thousand kays go...MY13 Polo GTI - Candy white - Bi-xenons - H&R Sport Springs - Ronal Aristos

Quick report of my last 10.000Kms:
_At 12.500Kms I changed by myself engine oil (Bardhal C60 LS 5W30) and oil filter (VW original): I filled till the end of zone "A" (see greed arrow of the pic).
_Now I'm at 22.500Kms, the oil is now on the yellow arrow (five dots under max level)
I guess that with about 0.5 liter I should restore the original level.
For a complete report: at 13.800Kms I changed the breather pipe.

This has included tracking the car twice the first a@2500km and the next @4200km. I'll see what happens after Queensland raceway session this Sunday.Black Polo GTI MY13 | Sunroof | Leather|Bi Xenons | Octane Tint

Is this the factory engine or rebuilt engine at the dealership?
What engine oil were you on before this?
Thats a healthy engine you got there. But could you do another oil check when the engine is cold before you start it up?

Kevin,
no, I didn't update the software, I bought (63€) and fit the pipe by myself.
The software update (rumors) should reduce a little the charger action at low revs on high gears.
This is a CAVE factory engine, built date 07/2011
Before breather change I used about 1 liter in the first 10.000Km, now seems halved...
Till 12.500Km I had the original Castrol Edge oil
Usually, if I check the oil when cold I find one dot lesser in the dipstick if compared to hot engine... I guess it's only a kind of "hygroscopic" effect on the dipstick: the oil is thinner, climbs a little bit more between the dots of the dipstick...
I had a quite hard break in (hill roads with a lot of long climbs and consequents downhills) and at least one time per day I use to reach high revs and high gas charges, with hot oil and always progressively (even if oil is already hot enough).
I NEVER use D...
