  • Anything special about the brake calipers?

Just received new brake pads <shameless plug for Greg at Brakes Direct> for the polo. Plan on putting them in this week.

Is there anything special to know about them calipers on these, or is it just a case of squeeze em in like every other car?

Nope, other than a 7mm hex drive, it's pretty simple. Oh, and a piston wind-back tool....

A small G cramp works quite well for pistons, If you have one of course.

WIND back tool - the rears don't need to be rotated because of funky handbrake mech do they?

I've always just used a huge set of multi grips haha

The reason for using a wind back tool or as I do a G cramp is to push the piston back evenly Unless you have a huge set of multi grips you would be pushing on one edge and can jam it and score the bore

You must have been lucky as I tried that 40 years ago and had to buy a new caliper , never did that again

If you must use multi grips/pliers Stick a flat bar across the pot to spread the force more evenly.

Sorry i took so long to reply, yes, the rears DO need to be wound back in, no, a g clamp won't work. They also changed the damn hole pattern so make sure you have the appropriate hole pattern adapter...
