  • Polo 6r wheels

Not sure if anyone is able to add to my findings regarding wheel specs for Polo 6r?

I have a set of 8x18 Audi A8 replica alloys which served me well on a series 4 Golf. They have an offset of 45mm.

When fitted to my Polo, there are no issues in terms of clearances at the rear. However, there appears to be a problem at the front.

There is a gap between the strut and the wheel edge of about 10mm, but the wheel actually sticks out about 6mm outside the front guard (illigal?)

If the offset is changed to 35mm (standard) then this solves the issue of the wheel sticking out past the front guard. Unforunately, at this offset, an 8 inch wheel then collides with the strut.

Hence, if a standard offset (35mm) is maintained to avoid clearance issues a 7.5 inch wheel is one option. Otherwise an 8 inch wheel would need to have an offset of 40mm whereby a 5mm gap is maintaned betweek wheel and strut, as well as the outside of the wheel being spot on level with the front guard.

    Any thoughts?

ET35 wil bring the rim out 1 cm extra compared to ET45 so you wont have clearance issues, many others have fittes 18x8 ET35 before on a Polo 6R. Can't say anything about the law since I'm on the other side of the world, but I would go for 18x8 myself no problem. Rear can even fit 18x9 if you stretch the tires enough

Looks like your Audi wheels are et35 or 32 as standard polo gti wheels are et46 and they sit in about 10-15mm from the front guards. My 18x8 et35 wheels sit around 5mm proud at the front, 18x9 with an et38 fit fine in the rear

Thank you for respondong with this information.

I am not keen to have the wheels sticking out beyond the front guards. Since there is about 10mm clearance between wheel and strut on an 18x8 with an et36 then if the et was increase to 40mm, the rim would come in towards the strut 5mm and not protrude past the guard. A clearence of about 5mmm would still be maintaned between the wheel and strut. (Hope I am right?)

Are you aware of any alloy wheels in Australia where a customer can nominate the et?

        Kind regards

        Also, I intend to

Im sure you could get the wheels you have milled down to fit better?
shaving a few mm off the mounting face will bring them in

Are you able to give me the make of your wheels and where did you buy them? (perhaps a picture?)

            Kind regards

              Hello Dave

              Thank you for your rsponse.

Not sure if lowering the front (35/55 H&R springs) will actually create some negative camber and hence pull the top of the wheel in closer?

Hence, the wheel may not stick out past the guard. Only need about 5 to 8 mm.

              Kind regards

going from 8et45 to 8et35 will not bring the wheel in closer to the guard? will push it out futher

keep in mind offset is based on width, think you might be leaving some info about hte wheels out?

A few places will do custom offset wheels in AUS, but they are usually rubbish from bob janes etc.

depends on the wheel design... some do not have allowance to remove material due to the bolt seating depth
