  • Stock Boost Pressure - GTI

    Afternoon Gents,

I'm like the next guy and love my spec's. Does anyone know what the standard boost pressure is for the 1.4tsi Polo?
I've done heaps of googling and can't find an answer.

Polo GTI reviews don't seem to mention it, but you'll see it in some Skoda Fabia RS ones (which has the same engine and dsg).

It does, however, come with the same twincharged (super and turbocharged) direct-injection 1.4-litre petrol four, which features relatively high 10.0:1 compression and boost pressure of 2.5 bar to deliver the same 132kW and 250Nm between 2000-4500rpm.

      You're amazing, thanks man!

Didn't realise they shared the same power plant otherwise it mightn't have been that hard to fine.

      2.5 bar, F### me. Thats near enough 40psi !

2.5 bar on 10:1 sounds ridiculous, this has to be incorrect. If I were to take a guess I'd say around 1.2 bar.

The 77TSI runs boost at 1.5Bar (22PSI). There is a page on Wikipedia that shows all these specs on the various vw engines.

supercharger provides a boost pressure of 1.2 bars (17.4 psi). Could not find turbo but wouldn't be far off.
Not to bad considering my liberty GT-B STI 2.5L peaked at 15 ish when you punched it then dropped promptly to a steady 10.

The boost for the turbo is listed just below the supercharger details. The KKK turbocharger boost pressure is 36.3psi (2.5bar)

That may be what the turbo's max pressure is capable of, but there is no way it's running that. I remember there was a polo gti on YouTube with a boost gauge. Might have to find it and see if the readings are visable.

Actually it is quite possible for it to be running that. That is the advantage of direct injection. Because the fuel is directly injected it has the effect of cooling the cylinder and thus preventing pre-ignition (or pinging) which means you can have much higher boost pressures.

I have driven my car (77tsi) with VCDS in and I have seen it get up to 22psi before so if my turbo runs at these pressures then I would assume the GTI is running 36psi.

Especially considering it has 136kw which is very high for a 1.4L motor and to get that kind of "power" (not torque, remember power = torque x RPM) without using the supercharger (which is for low end torque only) then I would say it is running at these high pressures.

                          thanks for confirming

ive actually read that before, but it just sounded way too high !

im used to jdm cars where 18 psi is considered crazy, so when i read a little polo was pushing 22 psi ? naaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

going a bit OT here, but anyone had luck with a boost gauge in the polo ? done some research, and not a fan of the gauge in the vent, nor the wierd gauge pod thing that goes on the steering wheel

The best option would be to get Polar FIS? (I think that's what it is called...or am I compleatly off) which is an update/control box that displays all the computer data to the MFD display. The same way I can see my boost pressures with my laptop through VCDS is the same way this program connected to the MFD displays information. Just a lot easier.

In this vid you can clearly see the gauge goes to 2.0bar

Even though he drives slow in this he does kind of put his foot down but it didn't go past 1.2bar and am unsure of what gear and how much throttle
