  • polo 77 tsi: self adjusting fan speed

problem: my car is always changing the fan speed, and this is really starting to annoy me, i have just gone thru the instruction manual and couldnt find any related info

(i have the climate control, not the manual knobs)

im pretty sure its speed dependent

eg: im driving normally, a/c on, fan on 2 bars. when i start slowing down for a red light, it automatically adjusts this to one bar. Then when i start to drive off again, it goes back up to 2 bars, or sometimes stays at 1 bar, i cannot figure out the logic

Is there someway to disable this stupid feature so I control the fan speed completely ?

There are also occasions when the fan speed just ramps up to 4 bars! and once again, i have no idea for the logic of when or why the system chooses to do this

Does it increase to 'around 4 bars' when the inside temp increases? I know with the climatronic system the fan speed is always automatically controlled (even if it isn't on 'AUTO') depending on the temperature difference between inside and outside.
I also have noticed on my Polo (which has climatronic) that if sun shines on the dashboard, the fan speed almost instantly increases.

    Alex.

I've got the climatronic and I've not noticed that. I always leave it in manual mode and it never moves unless I dial it in.

This is the feature i want to disable, i hate cars adjusting settings on me when i want to manually adjust them. its really annoying sitting at the lights on a hot day, and the fan drops to the lowest setting

Yep climatronic in manual mode changes fan speed on its own. Annoying yes. Also I prefer to keep the recirc on but it refuses to do as its told

It's controlled by the sunlight sensors in the dash which as logic dictates, more sun on the windscreen, more heat in the car. Cover the sensors and you should be sweet. Just don't expect auto to work properly again though.

Is there actually a light sensor in the dash?

Of course it wont keep recirc on. It's dangerous to drive around with recirc on 100% of the time. The owners manual will state that as well.

Bwahaha.. Dangerous I'm familiar with the owners manual. It says a lot of things, and not always relevent to AU conditions, such as when the climatronic detects outside pollution it will automatically recirc A/C. Ha how bad does it have to get for that? Besides recirc doesn't mean your not receiving any fresh outside air.
Hell I'm pretty certain the recirc button actually does very little in the way of shutting of fresh air vents!

The climatronic in the Polo doesn't have that feature. My friends Touareg and Alfa Brera has that and it actually works really well.

I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's because at idle the a/c compressor is running slower and so won't cool as effectively, meaning the fan must slow to stop the whole system heating up.

kam, does your fan slow down when you stop if its on auto mode, or just in manual?

i never use auto, because i like to be in control

so everything ive mentioned, has been in manual mode

i tried out a few things today, and found that if i use a temp < 22 deg, it doesnt do it as much

if i put it on 22 with a/c, it does it quite frequently
