    Hi guys,

Seen some threads in here about lights and problems when bringing in euro tailights due to the reverse/fog light being on the wrong side.

Just seen these on eBay and I think they would look great

These lights are ligitimate.. a few people on here have installed them already.
Have a look at 'fastlane' car, he's put these exact same light on his car.

You are right that the reverse light is on a different side in Europe but they can easily be converted to comply; they are not too difficult at all to install.

This is a write up from Nomad explaining the process to change them over to Australian specs:

To change the tail lights over from LHD to RHD, you have to:

    - Remove the fog light lens
    - Change over the wiring (or use the old tail light electrical panel) depending if you intend to sell or keep the old tail lights.

First up to remove the old tail lights from the car, undo the white bolts that hold them in. Located behind the carpet flaps in the back C pillars. They are quite hard to undo but they do unscrew just like normal screws (lefty loosey, righty tighty). Then pop out the tail light and undo the cable (there is 2 clips on the side of the plug holding it into the light)

Ok now for the new black tail lights. The foglight is on the wrong side, what this also means is that the reverse light is on the wrong side and thus neither work because the wiring is different. To fix this I just took the electrical panel off (held in by 4 clips) and literally ripped the red foglight lens out. Just some long nose pliers will do fine. Once you rip that out your almost there.

Now you have to make a decision:

Do you want to keep the original tail lights intact to sell?

Or are you adventurous and want to change wiring?

If you don't intend to keep the taillights and are selling them you will have to change the wiring. Trust me its not as bad as it sounds. All you have to do is:

Look at the connector on both Sides you will see the

    left has:
    5 pins and a space.

    right has:
4 pins, a space and then 1 pin

What you have to do is move the end 2 pins so that they look like this

    Left side:
4 pins, a space and then 1 pin

    Right side:
5 pins and then a space.

In other words just swapping both sides around. Left goes to right and vice versa. A small flathead screwdriver is all that is required to remove the pins from the plastic socket and move it over.

If you don't intend to sell the tail lights all you have to do is move the electrical panel over from the old lights an put them on the new one but make sure you move the red brake bulbs over.

This is because the original red tail lights use a clear bulb and a red lens where the black tail lights use a red bulb and a clear lens, meaning the only thing giving the red effect is the bulbs themselves.

What about the foglight you ask? If you feel it is important to have a rear foglight you can go out and buy a red bulb (same as the stop light) and put it in its place on the driver side.

Hope it helps. I would post pictures but am occupied elsewhere for the duration and an iPhone is already a difficult device to use for this kind of stuff.

would it then be feasible to run reverse lights on BOTH sides?

i'm sick of people telling me one of my reverse lights isn't working...

          Bigfoot I hear you.

First day I showed my mum the new polo she was all panicked cause the reverse light wasn't working.

I'd had a polo for 3 years prior and I think I told her twenty times....

          *sigh*

because of Australia's ingenious plan to change the design of the euro's and make the reverse light on the LHS (which is stupid imo), i believe the reverse signal wire only passes to the LHS light.

To make the RHS work as a reverse also, you would need to feed that wire from the LHS light to the RHS light and connect it into the correct pin and disable your reverse fog light switch. Or you could just put in a clear bulb and use your fog light switch to activate the RHS reverse light

Yeah, people can be annoying like that, but if you ever end up in heavy rain or fog, having the fog light can be handy.

With most parallel parking being on the left hand side, as well as most rear-to-curb angle parking having the passenger side as the nearest to the curb, it makes sense to have light focused behind the passenger side of the car so that you can see curbs and any potential hazards.

Yep and it also doesn't allow anyone driving past your parallel park to see you when you're reversing.

Two makes sense. As would having two fog lights.

Actually my Megane has a setup I actually don't mind too much: Two reversing lights and one fog light on the right when viewed from the back.

exactly why I would have expected the reverse light to be on the RHS.

if the only reason to get these are the fact they are darker, then thats pretty stupid. a light tint would do the exact same job.

Sorry Kam but a light tint would be completely different in look and I believe has some legal implications too!

as you can see the casing on these is clear and the inserts around the lights are black. Not like a tint at all.

The good news for you is that you don't have to buy them if you dont like them.
