  • Air Filter question

    HI guys and gals,

sorry to be a pest because I'm sure this has been posted, but I've been trawling the forum for a day or so and I can't seem to locate a thread I saw with K&N part numbers for the 1.2TSI polo air filter.

The K&N site says the number is e-2997 and thats the one I see on various ebay sellers, but I just want to be sure.

I think I read somewhere that you need some sort of adapter piece as well (wish i could find that damn thread!)

Thanks for any help and feel free to lock the thread for duplication, delete and ban me...JUST HELP!! haha

    Cheers

    Re: Air Filter question

For the love of your engine don't, stick with the oem or other filter brand that filtrate bit better.

^^^^^ This.... K&N is a total waste of money and if not oil/prepped correctly will not filter as well as a OEM filter.

Got a k&n in my 1.2t. Love it, worth the money for the extra 1-2kw and better throttle response.

It says it filters better than OEM but I don't believe that 100%. though the oil soaked cotton is a very good filtration method for performance as I use it for my racing quad bikes there is no way it can be better than OEM just due to the fact that I has less filtration levels.

But at the end of the day I only intend to keep my car for 5 years so the lack of filtration will not affect the motor (as much as me flooring it everywhere xD).

If you intend to keep the car 10+ years then yeah don't do it but you know what, I'm on my 2nd DSG so I expect everything else to die before the engine! (As sad as that is, still love my car though)

              Air Filter question

I only know of one aftermarket brand that is both better filtration and better flow than factory but I don't think they are available in oz yet.... People seem to forget that millions of development dollars get spent on how to optimize the airflow into an engine including filtration.

Would be good if they had compared it against a OEM type filter to compare. All well and good to tell you which one is the best of that particular bunch but how good are there filtration against OEM. OEM flow may not be as good as some but do they filter less/same/more

I ordered a K&N for the Yeti earlier today. I've had 2 in the WRX over 160,000 with no problems at all.

                        Some people lov'm some Hate'm.

                        Happy Days.
