  • Late delivery

    Hi Guys

Brought a polo from bryanbyrt volkswagen in Brisbane and the contract estimated delivery date is 31/12/12 and now they are telling me its waiting for compliance and it should arrive within two weeks. The salesman said go talk to his managers if I have an issue with that.

I'm not really satisfy with the salesman response and two weeks extra is a fair way off the estimated date. Anyone has any suggestions for me? Complaint? Or call them? What should I do?

Feels like once I've signed the contract they don't give a damn about the sales anymore.
    Thanks

well...to be fair...we could comment if you provided a bit more detail on how the conversation went.

If you said "Oi, sh*thead...where's me f**k*ing car?"

Then I'd say he would be within his rights to provide the response he did. HOWEVER, I am sure that's not how it went.

So...to be fair to the (now named) dealer...tell it like it is/was.

      Exact words are
Me : "Any news on the polo arrival?"

Salesman : "With customers ... No answer as yet ... Will b in touch.. Car is waiting for compliance should be here with the fortnight cheers again G"

Me: "So u r saying within two weeks? That s a fair way off the 31/12 ETA. "

Salesman : "As per reply via text earlier
      Your car is getting Compliance
& is due here within the next 2 weeks...
If you have an issue with that then I suggest
you discuss it further with either Paul my Manager
      or Rob my General Manager
      Regards again G "

Talking to a thew others I know that orderd golfs and polos including myself. A week or two past the date they gave is normal. Not that it is satisfactory. I was told while my car was on the boat that it was about two weeks delayed. Fair enough. It was then delayed another 2-3 days in Brisbane due to some storms which was not there fault but once it hit Melbourne I was told delivery would be the next week. But it took three weeks till delivery. They are at times at the mercy of the company that dose the import checks. But they don't help them selfs with there poor communication.

It could be worse. The dealer near me had a guy order a fully loaded polo gti (xenons, leather, sunroof, nav the works) in a three door. They stuffed the order and a five door rocked up so after all the wait he had to do it all again. Although he did get to drive the 5 door around until his arrives

Everything seems to slow down/stop over the Xmas/New Year period. If it's more than the two weeks, then it might be time to arc up.

its out of their hands, what do you want them to do ? their waiting on other people, just like your waiting on them, jeez.

Give the guy a break 'kam'! He's obviously excited to get his new car and I don't blame him. if the dealer gave me attitude like that I'd be taking to someone of higher authority too

I've been in this position as an importer, it's very frustrating when you quote a customer a date and situations out of your control mean you can't deliver. However I guess I never promised/signed a contract promising a delivery date. If they are contracted to deliver on a certain date surely you are entitled to something.

                  Late delivery

Nugget I'm also on the "it's not really that bad" bandwagon because realistically, an estimated delivery date is just that. My car was delivered to me 3 weeks after another car that came on the same boat had been picked up in Mildura and was bein driven around.

I know that the anticipation is a killer but really, considering the logistics involved in the manufacturing of that one vehicle, 14 days isn't too bad.

Just think, you could have waited 6 months for delivery like me or even up to 12 months for some people!

It is an "estimated delivery date", however the salesman sounded pretty confident when he said i can get it by 31/12. I might give them another week, I m not satisfy mainly because of the after sales attitude, just doesn't give a damn after I signed.

i dont think i'd ever wait for a car to be delivered, i'm too impatient...

every car ive purchased is off the lot, or brand new out of the showroom... (thank christ)

when i purchased the polo gti there was a 14 month wait for the same car... luckily i came across a cancelled order

the dealer would be best over estimating the delivery... then when the customer gets it early, the dealer is a hero!

                      cheers,

How long have you been waiting for the car in total? Weeks? Months?
Also, shame on the dealer for not using their head, and explaining the 31/12 is a tough time of year - that's the worst week of the year to get anything done that relies on other people and businesses

Ah so it was an estimated time? Then you don't have any recourse really.

Personally, If I was quoted 31/12 as a delivery date I wouldn't be expecting delivery then. Its a nightmare time and many poeple are on holidays anyway. Mid Jan would have been my bet

I feel for you Nugget! My car arrived in the country on Friday and is sitting in the Patricks yard with probably a couple of thousand other cars awaiting compliance and delivery to the dealer. My contract doesn't even have an Estimated Delivery Date on it - one of the conditions of sale that I stipulated was that delivery to me must occur in January or February 2013 (ordered July 2012) and this is printed on the contract. Unless something goes drastically wrong they will hit just about dead centre of that delivery window.

My salesperson has been brilliant and she's been more than happy to provide information (VIN and engine no. so I could stalk my car using Vessel Tracker/Marine Traffic) and answer all of my annoying questions. She's also been very good at managing my expectations regarding delivery date and hasn't wavered from their official line that it will be a maximum period of four weeks from arrival in the country to delivery to me. I'm hoping it will be here in three weeks and she hopes that will happen for me but has never suggested it will.

I think what has happened in your case is that your salesman has been a little careless in not recognising your expectations and explaining what the Estimated Delivery Date on the contract means and what the variables are, which is a shame. That said, if the exchange you provided is verbatim I don't think it reflects particularly well on the salesman and is in stark contrast to the communications I've received. It's a snapshot without a lot of context though so I don't want to be too hard on the guy. We all have a crap day now and again and perhaps aren't as helpful as we could be.

Anyway, I'm sure once you actually get your car the extra waiting time will be forgotten as you'll be having too much fun!

Congrats on your new Polo when you do get it (I'll still be waiting, dammit!) and make sure you post some photos.

                            Cheers, Andy

Unless your contract states a delivery date, it's subject to variation and you have to cop it. It's currently a week beyond ETA and you're coming down like a tonne of bricks?

It's holiday time. Chill, grab a beer and a swim. Stop whinging.
