  • G'day - new Polo GTI owner

    Howdy everyone

I picked up my new Reflex Silver Polo GTI on Monday, and have been very happy with it thus far. My first VW and first auto' gearbox in over 23 years of vehicle ownership!

I've been reading these forums for a few weeks to help me decide on the purchase, so a belated thanks to everyone for their (unknowing) aqssitance

Went into the dealer last Wed and test drove a GTI and picked up 5 days later Traded my wife's 2010 Fiesta Zetec, so she's inherited my (tuned and tweaked) 2010 Forester XT

I'm not sure why my GTI has Denver alloys and not Detroit??? Bit disappointed about that.

I've worked my way through all the user manuals and set everything up the way I want it, with the exception of the stupid touch adapter. I've bypassed this for the moment and connected my SGS3 directly to the RCD510. Works as I want. I've ordered a Bury System 9 universal cradle which I'll put in place of the touch adapter so I have somewhere to mount and charge my phone. I'll have the dealer recode to remove the missing touch adapter message in the near future.

The only other change I want to make in the short-term is to disable the daytime running lights (non-Xenon). Something I'll add to the list to look at over the Christmas break

    Cheers

Welcome and congrats on new purchase.

I to for one want to disable the DRL Halogen lights just puts a lesser life span IMO. There is something on here I read not to long ago on disabling them I've been to lazy/busy to do it but I will be over the xmas break as well.

Lurking is a good way to know a car before buying, plus it gives you a list of mods to do when you end up buying it.

Your Polo is a MY12.5 if it has Denvers, only the MY13's have Detroit.

Heres a link for the DRL stop

Why are people interested in disabling the DRLs anyway? Don't you think they look good....?

I can think of one reason....DRIVEINS!!!! I needed the car to be on to remove the fog on windows without killing the battery (winter driveins no good) but kept annoying people around me!

It's funny but my manual tells me I can disable DRL's through the indicator stalk. Never seems to work though?!

Do Driveins even exist anywhere in Australia anymore?

G'day - new Polo GTI owner

There is 3 in Melbourne... I'd be more worried about the fogging up

And no, the DRL cannot be disabled through the switchgear.

Rushn, if you were under the impression you would be getting Detroits, check your contract to see what year it says.

Re: DRL. Personal opinion, I just don't like them I travel around 30K country road kms per year, and always drive with my lights on, but I want to choose when they are on or off.

Re: Detroit's. Contract says MY12.5 (car is March 2012 build, July 2012 complied), so I guess I'm out of luck! Dealer had two GTI's in stock, my reflex silver and a flash red, and both had Denver's. I probably should have looked around more, however I'm an impatient bugger
