  • New polo parking sensors

Hello. What are the options to have parking sensors for a new polo. If I get genuine vw parking sensors from eBay will they be compatible with polos rcd310 stereo, or do I have to upgrade stereo as well?

I dont think the sensors are integrated into the stereo.

We have them in our polo with rcd310

They are not. What you are thinking of is the OPS or optical parking system. This can be an option on the RCD510 unit so long as you use the factory sensors with control module and then code it in through VCDS.

I get that for $200+ you could get these, and yes, with a VCDS recode they should work on the RCD310, but keep in mind 2 things.

          1. These require cutting holes into your bumper bars, and isn't exactly a DIY solution.
          2. There are a lot of people on the forums here - myself included who would recommend upgrading to a reverse parking camera and with it, a superior head-unit.

Not sure how much the cutting of the bumper will cost you, but it's worth considering the reverse camera and head unit.

Bumper already has the drilling points marked in the back of it with crosshairs so you just need an 18mm drill or hole saw.

I agree however that a camera is better.

How hard is it to remove front and rear bumpers? Is it a big job?

I'm sorry to be the be the one to break the bad news, but you won't get the parking sensors displaying on your RCD310 easily. The factory fitted sensors do work with the stereo's but unfortunately the dealer fitted ones do not; it has something to do with the controller they install at the factory being different to the dealer fitted one.

If you find out that I am wrong, let me know what you did pass on the info because I have been trying to get this working for ages. Unfortunately the cost of the new controller and installl aren't worth it ($800); if you go that far you may as well get the RNS510 with a reversing camera.

Yes they are the proper OPC sensors, which display on screen. William_Foster is talking about the fact most dealers are pretty dense and install the PDC sensors, which only beep. You can upgrade PDC to OPC but it's a bit of an effort (replace the PDC controller with OPC and then run new wires to CAN bus).

I agree with the sentiment here.. I did a write up a little while ago on how to do it, its pretty easy but with an RCD310 I would not bother, with the RCD510 being so cheap, its worth spending the little extra.

And dont get dealer fit, most dont go with the VW ones but aftermarket units which dont integrate and dont look all that good either imho
