    Well, you'd be surprised how many overlook the master cylinder and reservoir when they fit calipers with larger or more pistons.

    Also, brakes are an ADR item, and there are a series of tests that have to be conducted to show braking performance and control. No point in fitting huge brakes that lock the wheels with the slightest pressure, or having brakes that are not balanced front to rear.

      It was disabled already in VCDS, and not sure if I have braked hard enough to trigger it, no.

        Many who have been brought up in the days of no ABS or have never driven one before never really brake hard enough to produce the required deceleration.

        The other day I was going down a slip lane turning left from. The slip lane was around 100 m long. The 3 lanes going through the intersection were stopped, when all of a sudden from between two trucks 3 high school students decided to try and cross about 50 metres from the lights. I jumped on the brakes, but this being my first car with ABS, I did not jump on them hard enough so the ABS did not kick in, nor did the hazard warning lights. I managed to stop just inches (millimetres) from hitting them. It is something to get used to. If you have to stop in an emergency, just stomp on the brakes as hard as you can and let the ABS do its job. It goes agaist what most have been taught.

        Maybe we need to find a secluded spot and actually try our brakes out, however we would probably get caught for "hooning".

        By the way, you can always tell when you are in the education precinct of a city or town. It is the area where those who are our future (and their teachers/lecturers) don't seem to understand what the WALK / DON'T WALK signs mean, or have no idea as to why authorities put barriers along the middle of the road (to stop people crossing at other than the marked crossings).

            I can hear you, I also have the same feeling, that the civilization is getting dumber. Otherwise many wouldn't be so worried;

              I've triggered ABS in other cars, but haven't yet in my Polo, and at one point wished I had it on my motorbike. And to be clear, this isn't the ABS, this is just the hazard lights triggering under heavy/emergency braking.

                Chances are that the trigger for the hazard warning lights coming on will have something to do with the ABS triggering.

                    The other important thing with ABS is that you can steer away from the obstacle. What you dont do (and most people do actually do this!) is put your foot to the floor on the brake pedal and either close your eyes, or open them wide and scream and then just grip the wheel and hope you stop before you hit the thing you're aiming at. (i've seen the latter one first hand before she hit me btw) What you do its brake very hard and steer around the thing you want to miss. Ford did a great ad in the UK for the first Granada models with ABS; wet country road and something like a tractor shoots out of a field, guy just hammers the pedal and steers round the thing and drives on, perfect!

                      In my worthless opinion, the 4 factors determine what will get you into trouble are
                      1. compliance with ADR
                      2. compliance with general road rules,
                      3. visual and aural appearance
                      4. ability to pass the attitude test.

                      All these things have different weightings with #1 being the lowest. Even your car is a little bit low and has engine and brake mods, nobody is going to take any notice until you break one of the other 3. If you're hooning around with neons and leds glowing, with a 10,000W subwoofer you will get pulled over. Fail the attitude test and you'll get defected for a stone chip.

                      Not really sure why you would want a car lower than 100mm or have a straight through exhaust, but when you do you shouldnt be surprised of attracting attention.
