  • Hello & Bluetooth Questions!

    Hello all!

I just picked up my new to me 2011 MY11 Polo GTI (previously WAY's cum Alpine's car). Really liking it and am amazing this little thing is - truly remarkable. The H&R Coilovers must make a difference as the handling is phenomenal.

I was very disappointed to find that it doesn't come with Bluetooth - this is going to be my daily driver so this was pretty important for me. Crazy that VW doesn't include something here - does anybody know why this is??

After a bit of reading on this very informative forum - I found that a 9W7 system can be retrofitted - as per the very detailed thread posted by GraveDilute.

Excuse the newb question but how do I know what head unit is installed in the car as standard? I know it's not a RNS-510 but is it a RCD-310 or RCD-510?

As I understand the 9W7 Retro kit will work on RCD-510 or RNS-510 but not RCD-310?

Would appreciate all help with this.

Thank you and looking forward to getting to know you all.

    Hihi,

    RCD-310 has a Green/Black or a Blue/White LCD screen like you'd see on a calculator.

RCD-510 has a full colour LCD screen, and the later ones are able to view Reverse Cameras

Since you have a GTI though, with the LCD screen in between the speedo, you don't need to worry about which headunit you have because it can do all the work.

Awesome. Thank you readerr0r! Really appreciate the detailed response.

Do I need to also purchase a coding cable to ensure all functionality is added?

You can ask to borrow someone's cable if you don't feel like parting with $400 for the cable...

Has the wheel scrubbing issue been fixed on that car yet?

I'm in Darwin so I doubt there'll be much cables floating around. If anyone does have one - I'd be more than happy to pay for postage both ways! $400 is definitely a bit rich!

I am yet to experience the wheel scrubbing issue. Alpine said it's mostly under compression from a dip or dive in the road. I haven't really put it through its paces as yet. There is an upcoming track practice day when I'll give the other cars a break and give the Polo a go! If the problem does come up - I'll raise the front by about 5mm or so.

Just purchased a 9W7 Kit from the Spanish seller on eBay. If it works seems like an easy enough fix!

What does this coding cable entail?

Sorry for the repeated newb questions.

                Quick Review/Comparo

Have had a chance to drive the car a little bit more over the last couple of days and this thing is truly remarkable. I drove it back to back today with my other cars and it still holds up very well!

I'm extremely impressed by its combo of comfort and effortless performance. It's just so accesible - I think the APR tune really helps here - as I test drove a Golf GTI & Scirocco before this and they both has so much lag.

Also, this car is truly the cake and eat it too with it's fuel economy. It's 20% more mileage/kilometerage from a 20% smaller tank than the previous daily! Amazing!

It's easy to trick yourself into believing this thing is every bit as quick as the others - until you get them past 3.5K revs! The corning is also very good - the coilovers must certainly help. The rubbing issue has surface so will take it to our tyre place and have the front lifted by 5mm - should hopefully rectify.

Car also got a fantastic detail today. The guy spent about 5 hours going over it and said it was filthy! The clay bar and surface prep pad were black even after the initial wash! Goes to show how much is hidden by the white paint. I think a lot of it is from the transport company - I think they made a right mess of it and the truck driver left some grubby marks on the door card and may have smoked in the car too. All this is now rectified!

In other news have ordered a Ross-Tech VCDS cable and a Kufatec Auto Headlight kit - something I miss from the previous daily. Still waiting on the Bluetooth to turn up too. I'm not to great at DIY so should be interesting times!

                  Hi alik
May I ask where you got your detailing done. I moved to Darwin mid last year and have wanted it done for a while. I have a few minor scratches I would like gone as my GTI was trucked up from Melbourne.

Also just curious have you done anything else to your GTI since you have had it in Darwin?

                  Cheers
