  • OPS not displaying on RNS-510 (upgraded from RCD-310), help

    Hi guys,

Been searching high and low for this info on several forums and google, but couldn't really find what I'm looking for. I hope the ever-flowing fountain of VW knowledge, that is you guys can help shed some light on this.

So here it is: I got my MY12.5 77tsi last week with dealer fitted OPS installed (using RCD-310). All working well, and I decided to upgrade to RNS-510. Just finished putting it on yesterday, but the visual aid does not display on the screen when engaging to reverse. The beeping does continue to work, but yeah, none of that colorful radar.

I couldn't find any info on having to use different OPS hardware between the RCD-310 and the RNS-510, but maybe I've missed something. Do I simply need some sort of coding to activate the visuals on the RNS-510? Does anyone have similar scenario?

Any info is much much appreciated guys, and many thanks in advance!

RNS510 requires coding to recognize the OPS. Your dealer can do this or someone with VCDS.

My big question is; the dealer fitted the OPS to your RCD310? Please tell me who they are, what they did and how much they charged?

Pretty sure if it's dealer fit you can't get the OPS to show up on the screen. I had a fight with my dealer for 3 months after purchasing the dealer fit ones.

They don't have the control module that is required for it to show up on the screen. The only Polos that had it showing up on the screen were the first ones out of the factory in 2010 that had the factory fitted sensors.

If the dealer told you that they would show up on the screen (like mine did at purchase) then tell them to refund you!

Going by the OPs wording it does look like he has the proper OPS which does actually show on the RCD310, i guess they put the Golf unit in there

Yep, Bayford volkswagen @ Camberwell did this, they were having a June sale - rear OPS for $695 (previously $895). Couldn't tell you what they did mate, I don't know. They did say its a VW unit (although they could just say anything for a sale - but it does integrate with my RCD-310). Maybe the same as the ones on carsystem.pl??

I too was a bit skeptical. But when they were having the sale, there were official (?) posters showing the OPS integration to the RCD310/510, RNS510, etc etc. So I thought "yeah alright, why not". The first thing I did when I picked up the car was chucked it in reverse, and up goes the radar on the standard RCD310.

Man if the OPS wasn't there and I'd been lied to; I'd just keep reversing over that sales guy waving goodbye. I'll just say I couldn't see him on the headunit:p.

So yeah in this case, I'm pretty sure I have the correct control module for the optical aid.

Huh! Well there you go. Another big fat lie from the worst VW dealer in Melbourne. What a shock.

I did get my money back so it's not all bad I guess!!!

You should be able to see the unit though that little access hole in the rear right boot lining (or at least you can in mine).

Guys just an update. I got my VCDS two days ago and went straight to code the RNS as per readerr0r link. I found that the my RNS was already set up to accept OPS data.

So I had a poke around other controllers, and was finally able to bring up the OPS. This is what I did:
                      1. Went to address 19 - CAN Gateway > Installation list.
                      2. Found that address 10 - Park Assist was not checked.
                      3. Checked address 10, saved coding and voila, OPS screen appeared on the RNS when reversing.

Was so happy and did more coding after that including readerr0r's bluetooth tacky piece-of-crap removal.

Hope this thread helps others looking for this info.

Oh thats interesting. It shouldn't have worked with the RCD310 if the dealer didn't tick the box. I guess the 310 doesn't ask the CAN gateway?

Nice to see you're free of the tyranny that is the BT Touchscreen too! Give the steering stuff a spin as well, it's quite interesting.

That's very interesting indeed. I'm not sure why the 310 worked.. Maybe the RNS taps into a different data bus than the RCD, and so it needs the gateway to 'route' the data between the 2-3 CAN data busses. Not sure, I need to do some deeper research for interest. But it can't be that when I pulled out the 310, the park assist automatically gets unchecked from the installation list, can it? Not sure.

Anyway RE that BT touch adapter, yeah such a nuisance.. Unbelievable how much they're for sale for on ebay.

RE steering oO really? Thanks for that info; I'll have a read on the steering stuff and play with it over the weekend. I want to code the mic button to mute as well. I kinda miss the mute functionality back in the days when I was driving my mk5 golf gti w/o a BT.

Thanks for your responses/help and coding mate!
