High Seat position.. Any other options?

One thing I notice coming from a 6n1 to a 6r is the seat position even in its lowest position seems too high and I just can't seem to adjust it to a position that I like.

Is there any other seats that fit into a 6r (comfortline) that perhaps sit a little lower? Or even just to lower the front as on the 6n1 you could 'flatten' out the front of it where as now it seems to 'pitch up' at the front. I'm sure this is some ergonomic feature etc but I sometimes hit the lower steering column trim with my knee which is annoying.

Such a first world problem ) are the GTI ones any better or something else even?

Since I was lying on the seat upside down for a while yesterday with my head in the driver's side foot well (Trying to install the damn CH/LH kit but I think I"ll have to lose a few kg's first ), I can tell you that the GTI seats have a "lip" at the end and don't go down very far either.

Im 6ft6 and while I have ample headroom in the polo, it did take a little while getting the seating position just right. I took me a while to figure, but in the polo where the steering wheel is plays a bigger role than the seat. If your knee is hitting the wheel move it up as much as you can and pull it closer to you.

Also I actually found that moving the seat a little forward is better than moving it back as your knee will sit at a sharper angle and thus clear the wheel. I know it feels odd setting the seat like that but I driven like that for hours in comfort.


PS. Ian, try doing to job on your driveway with the door as far open as possible, use some old towels or a rug to give your knees some padding and go at it from side. You can also use trim tools to open the side panel to the right of the headlight switch, that'll let you see what your hands are doing

Thanks for that, I think you're right, just need to find the right position. Im only 5ft9 but still think i sit too high, ill keep playing and see what I can work out, but will try the closer and see how that goes.

I for one agree and I'm only 5ft8. The seats are really high, but I will say that I have had the GTi for 2 months now and I'm getting used to it. I nearly started thinking if I remove the compartment space under the seat will that let it go down lower...This I highly doubt.

At least its not just me yeah I doubt it can go any lower as a general rule. Im sure with some 'customisation' anything is possible but i dont think i'll chance it.

I did do a quick search and couldnt find anything but thats not to say something doesnt exist. What about someone like Recaro. I wonder if they make anything appropriate, but then you run into airbag issues i suspect unless you can 'null' them out with an adapter plug or something

For the most of it, it just takes some getting used to. This car isn't a performance car although it seem like it is. I don't think the lower of the seats would be an easy adjustment.
