Maybe it's me but what does that thing on the hood do? never seen it.. is it just to prevent stone chips?

It is a bonnet guard, it helps to stop most of the stone chips and also to deflect the stones that causes dents on that part of the bonnet.

Does it deflect up to the windscreen, or just away from the leading edge of the bonnet? I've often wondered whether they would work better if they were made of a spongy material that absorbed most of the kinetic energy of flying stones.

also back at it after clearing the defect, need to lower it again at some point soon

Tried out some Audi 18x8 replicas on the Polo with 225/40 tyres. Just for the fun of it.

Ended up with 18x7.5 and 215/35. All good no clearance issues with 35/55 H&R plus Koni adjusatable shocks.

Carbon fiber rear roof spiler being experimented with curremtly.
