Going in for my First Service...

Hey all,

I just put my car in for it's first service today and was wondering what have you all experienced or requested in getting checked? I know the oil usage is an important one but was just seeing if anyone had a change in brake fluid, preference in oil or any other specific things that should be taken into consideration...???

I'm thinking of changing brake fluid and If I knew I'd try and see if I can get some coding done.

Also include costing, repairs and locations of where you got it done.

Well it's a bit late to be recommending things if it already in getting worked on... Unless you have oil consumption issues, they won't do anything other than maybe put you in a consumption test.

Oh yeah I figured it was late but still could be some use for others... which is why I started the thread anyways... Feel free to remove or move it is has been covered before.

What's a consumption test... btw I had the oil light come on 2 days ago but having 13K on the speedo I think that's fine.
Also I have requested for better brake fluid and still waiting back on what the options are? I asked to upgrade pads but he said something about the ones he can put in wont work great under cold weather and need warming up first.

Ok, consumption test is vastly documented in the oil discussion thread.

Are you going to a Vw dealership or an independent shop? Is his better fluid an $8 bottle vs a $6.50 bottle, or proper decent fluid that is upwards of $20 a bottle? What brand of pads was he going to put in? What exactly are you after in regards to "better" pads?

He is giving me a call back tomorrow in regards to fluid and pads so I'll post once he confirms. Got the car back and wow feels so much better now. Not sure what he's done but it purrs again.
