  • Headlight dimming when steering

    Morning everyone,

I was parking my GTi last night and I realized when turning my steering wheel the headlights were dimming slightly with each turn. They are stock halogen units.

It seems to be some sort of connection error.

    This happen to anyone else?

Assume this is slow speed? Sounds like the steering is pulling a lot of power from the system, hence the dip in light. I would think at revs this wouldnt happen?

How much power does a power steering system need in a polo seriously. I've driven lots of large cars and never seen this issue.

Just seems really odd, but if nothing is going to die and I can see at night then I guess I'm good :-P

How many large cars use an electric power steering servo motor? Most are hydraulic pumped driven from a belt on the engine.

Are you sure this isn't the cornering lights coming on and off while you are parking?

I thought that was only in the upgraded head lights?

my 6r gti does it too... my old 1.2tsi did it as well... vw said the power steering puts a fair bit of load on the electrics of the car and that it was normal... haven't though much of it since...

I haven't noticed this on my car but does anyone know if there is any difference frm having the light switch off and on with the headlights? Is having them on brighter then having them?

I know this may seem confusing but having the head lights switched to the "O" switch is off but they are still on and then having them to the =D switch is on. Are they both omitting the same brightness.?
