Out in 2013, a whole year before I can get rid of my New Polo GTI!!! Grrrrrrr
But the Polo R WRC has been testing for a while, does anyone else follow the WRC? I'm a fanatic! VW are currently using the Skoda Fabia S2000 with VW parts as they compete full season in 2013 in the R!
On another note, if R Polo is launched in Europe in 2013 then by the time we can get in Aus, it'll be 2014 and my shuttle mortgage on my new GTI will be over and I can get one! Yes!!!!!
BUT won't the new Polo be built on the new Platform!? Midas well get a GTI in new shape... Ughhhh decisions!

2014 the new Golf R will be here...that and the A-Class AMG is the beez kneez for new hatch for me...
mmmmm a new Golf R would be niceeeee.
OR if the Polo R is AWD. If it isn't I probably wouldn't go near it haha (about to start a nuclear war with that comment I think).
Or the new S3 when it comes out
Or an A1 Quattro hehehehe
Man, I better stop before we all get old before I end up finishing my thought process in this reply haha

unless the Wheel base is extended/wider the Polo R (if it goes into production) will not have AWD...maybe RWD as VW are aiming to building components that can suit/fit most cars for maintenance work/repairs (cost effective measures).
and it could be a big let down like the Rocco R...FWD...yuck!
The A-Class AMG hell even the 250 (155kw/Vs Golf GTI).
S3 Sportback
A1 - Sorry too girly for me.
New Alfa Giuletta? (set to arrive 2013 in Aus with remoured 212 kw...sexy).
Yeah I'm not going to lie. I'm a 4WD/AWD kinda guy. I just like the grip, and then once you go past that you can manipulate the car into under or oversteer (whichever is needed at the time) haha
Yeah, the new Giuletta has the underpinnings for 4WD apparently?

I hope the polo r is not awd, simply because it would defeat the purpose of it being a feather weight hot hatch. The most pleasing aspect of it in fwd form is its lightweight. Add any more weight to it an it would destroy its driving dynamics. What I do hope for is for vw to through in a mechanical LSD , then it would truly deserve the moniker R. Back in your box awd fan.
1) Name 1 concept car that VW have done specifically for Worthersee that has actually gone into production.
2) Why is it just a GTi with a different front bumper/wheels/arch extensions/larger roof spoiler? the "rear diffuser" is just a gloss black GTi bumper insert even, the seats are also GTI seats whereas R seats have always had massively bigger bolsters etc.
3) A completely new platform is due next year.
While a polo R would be pretty cool, "The german company confirmed" is a hard pill for me personally to swallow, especially from a blog. Untill these are in the showroom being sold, I am a sceptic.
Side note, pretty dissapointing that the front bumper just looks like it's been taken of a Focus RS and modified to fit.
GTI Golf Cabrio. Which is into production! I win!!!
New platform for Polo will be out in 2014-15 I last read same with new Golf and all other VW cars etc. So don't think this one will make it to our shores... Old shape already!

Ok, so one, in a different form than presented at Worthersee mind you so technically it's still none
But you are right, I was mistaken with the platform update. With the new platform due in 18 months or so, why start production on a car that will last 12 months at the most. The updates to a production line specific to this model would be considerable, unless they do a really half-ars*d job of it. A limited edition I could see maybe happening, but not full scale production, not when the new platform has the allowance (rumoured) for fully independant suspension all around and AWD. Still, one can dream for a replacement
I know Gav may be smarting as he won't have the fastest production Polo then but bear with me, this may make sense.
From what I read the new MQB platform is going to use a completely new set of engines as well. So in all likelihood, this may give them a chance to stuff the old 210ps Golf GTI engine into an older platform and call it a special edition.
They've already put in an AWD train on an A1 which shares some kit with the Polo if they really decide to run with it. But I expect it would sell even without.
As for R seats, VW just buys them off Recaros. You'll find the R seats slight rebadged for Audis, Lotus even Mini Coopers.
It's still a proof of concept for now but I guess it may not be too difficult to put into production as a last hurrah to get rid of inventory kinda like the keenly priced M3 V8 Pure Editions and what nots
Polo R WRC Street will be produced in limited numbers from late next year, I would be surprised if RHD version is built, I suspect its FWD configuration with XDS.
