  • I hurt my Polo. Whats next.

I hurt my car this evening and now I'm dreading whats going to happen if they decide that its written off. I can't wait that long again. Worst still it was another VW I hit.

I have to wait for insurance to assess it now. I am most unhappy with myself.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself! Did any of the airbags deploy? If they did it may be a write-off but by the looks of the damage it doesn't look all that bad so I don't think they would have. Even if they did, I would not see why it SHOULDN'T be repaired because of the car's good condition (at least on the outside). But hey that's just me. Good luck with the ordeal.

Well the engine didn't sound happy with me. But fingers crossed its repairable and not noticeable after repair. Wish it had happened when I had my old 93 Subaru Impreza wagon instead of my first brand new car!

I've just never had a prang before and I have no idea how it all works out.

That will not be written off. The damage you have is far less than the damage I incurred after hitting a kangaroo and my car was not written off. Of course questions will be raised over whether the engine has damage but looking at the images, overall it doesn't appear to be too bad.

                Good luck.

RACQ is my insurer. Unfortunately it was my fault. The other driver did indicate very late by his own admission but I still ran up the back of him.

So no choice of repairer then, lets hope they assign a good shop. Let us know how it all goes.

Really? He should have a choice, my dad had a choice when an off-roading expedition went a little unexpected and had to drive over landslides and trees and damaged a right-hand side of the vehicle (it was a Land Rover Freelander 2). It needing new door panels and we got to choose the repairer.

                            Hey all
I did get a choice of repairer from a few RACQ prefered shops so I'm happy enough.
What worries me is that the assessor said that VW at times have supply issues with parts... He estimated 9-12 days for the repairs to be done. Thats off course if the parts are available!
Fingers crossed it doesn't take that long. I'm stuffed without transport.

Well I'm somewhat regretting my previous statement regarding who fixed my car. Pushing 4 weeks now and I'm still without my Polo. I got it back briefly on Thursday when my father (retired) picked it up and drove it to their place whist I was at work. I went to theirs to pick it up and thats when it all turned to ****. Sat in it started to engine and the coolant alarm goes off and there was a tapping or knocking sort of sound coming from the engine.

Couldn't drive it home that night. In the morning I looked at it with some light and heres the brief list of the major things wrong with it.
                              1. the front grill and VW badge didn't line up with the bonnet at all. Looked like the part came in, they put it in and never even looked at it.
                              2. The lights on the drivers side had a massive gap on one side and didnt' sit flush with the body (sitting to far in) and the passenger side the lights with jutting out.
                              3. The lower grill which houses the fog/static cornering lights had a bulge in the middle of them that made it come away beyond the rest of the bumper.
                              4. They left a big paint splotch on the passenger door that the guy said was a paint match that they should have cleaned up
                              5. There was damage to the bumper that occurred during the installation on the part on the passenger side as well as damaged that had been poorly/not fixed from a repaired panel
                              6. In general the only thing that was consistent was that every part they put on was not lined up at all.

Oh I should also mention the bit that upset me the most and I think you'll all find the humour in it like I've had to.
They guy initially tried to tell me that its returned state was how it was meant to look. Other than the grill not lining up with the bonnet.
I countered that repeatedly that I know what my car looked like as I washed it weekly and rinsed it almost daily. He stuck to his story until he finally made a mistake and said he'll go by a VW dealership and see what it looks like there... Such a full tard.

They took the car back on Friday morning and I'm most pissed with them. I've been on the phone with RACQ they whole time and they are documenting everything (apparently).
Am I allowed to name the place on here?
