People have different priorities and different time constraints. Let the poor boy be. I can well imagine when Dad gets home, getting the car serviced is not a huge priority.
Yes, they may pay for it in the end, but it's their decision. Have none of you never neglected getting something done, and regretted it later?
in the meantime, it shouldn't hurt to ask a question.
Read the OPs posts again. It wasn't about time, it was purely about money according to his replies. The question was asked "why buy a new car if you can't afford the servicing" & the OP dug a hole from there.
Getting the car serviced isn't an exclusive male domain & I can understand the dad having other priorities. There are plenty of women that manage all those "blokey" things due to their circumstances (spinsters, widowed, FIFO husbands, divorced, husbands are useless gumbys, etc).carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

All road users’ safety including yours and your loved ones on the road depends on the cars being regularly serviced and checked. So neglecting it and saying it's OK because people have a different priorities is plain wrong.Originally posted by RoknRob View PostWhat the ....? What kind of a thread is this?

I do regret that this thread has been bumped.
All good points, Brad. Certainly, my wife is fully capable of getting the car serviced. I don't know what the OP's mother's circumstances are. I just disagreed with the tone the conversation was taking, considering the OP is a a. A child and b. Having his parents kind of attacked. It can't be a good feeling, for a kid. And it was not his responsibility, anyway. Maybe the whole money angle was just his (mis)interpretation.Originally posted by brad View PostRob

Then again, I am prone to giving people the benefit of the doubt. A fault of mine.
In principle, I agree wholeheartedly, Transporter. On the other hand, being late to a service is not likely to make a new - ish car suddenly unroadworthy. It'a possible, I suppose, but not likely.Originally posted by Transporter View PostAll road users’ safety including yours and your loved ones on the road depends on the cars being regularly serviced and checked. That being said, I'm convinced it is better to service the car earlier, rather than later. Couldn't agree more. I am still a bit perplexed that my car is meant to go 15000km from new, without a checkup. I was not even offered a complimentary 1500 check. I reckon it is in those first few kilometres that you're going to pick up potential problems before they become BIG problems .

Exactly this, if the deposits are baked on like they are now, no amount of abrasive braking will remove that build up.
Your Vw service centre will probably charge you through the nose to do this, if you have another means of getting the discs to a brake specialist locally I can guide you through the disc removal, once you see how easy it is, you will kick yourself as to why you ever paid someone to do your brake changes!
Once the discs are skimmed and you have new pads (speak to Greg at GLS Rallysport), you will need to bed them pads in against the discs. Have a look at the last few posts in the 6R braking thread I started on how to do this, there is a link to the stoptech website.sigpic
