  • GTI 0-100 km/h

Here's a shameless plug for a video I uploaded today. A very respectable 0-100 time of roughly 5.7 (ish) seconds. It's got me wondering how this is comparable to other owners out there. Anyone else timed an acceleration run?

EDIT: I should probably mention that I have an APR Stage 1 upgrade and HP intake. It was also ever so slightly downhill, which I guess gave me about a third of a second or so. hooray for gravity!

Great performance and good use of manual shift...
I guess that using S mode the time would have been worse...

        How did you time it?

When I trimmed the video down to size before uploading it, the editing program gives you the exact time of the video. For example, it was at 49.50 seconds when I started accelerating and I paused it as I hit 100 at 55.13 seconds, giving me a time of 5.63s between the two.

Keep in mind 100 on the MDI doesn't equal 100 (hence why I always drive on the freeway at a displayed 108kph).

Nice run though - looks very undramatic from that video.

Thought I'd have a go in my 1.4TSI Golf as a comparison:

How about it, aljobar? A repeat in S mode for comparison?

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. Think of it as a virtual drag race Personally I dislike the Sport mode. It shifts far too late. The stock turbo runs out of puff if you rev it too high. It's better to shirt up a bit earlier and take advantage of the big torque

Surely it should accelerate just as hard in D as in S from a standing start.

In "D" mode the DSG changes earlier than in "S" mode. Aside from that "S" mode is really only handy if you want to stay within your power band rpm. Only time I have used "S" mode (with launch control) was against a clubby R8......& wasn't he surprised!!!

Also, put the shifter from D into S and your idle speed increases (like it does in Manual mode). Seems more ready to "pounce", than in D.

In S the gearbox is waiting in gear, in D it's sitting in neutral, hence the hesitation. It's more noticeable on hills after the hill hold Releases itself.

That doesn't sound right (have never heard of the car sitting in nuetral, but rather the clutch is engaged - even the next gear is preselected with the clutch engaged). Just in S it's prepared to dump the clutch for a quick start and shift at the optimum revs, whereas in D it's moreorless in comfort/eco mode and has to interpret your throttle inputs instead of assuming you want to go as fast as possible.
