  • Is there history of how car is driven with date and time?

    Good Day guys

    Is there a way to check if/and at what speeds your car was driven on a specific day and time?

    Reason I'm asking is I had some work done on the car that didn't require it to be driven but when I picked it up the average fuel consumption was over 22L/100km, definitely not done by me

    I forgot to take note of the milage so I can't use that

    nee boet..Should be around 5.8 - 6liter / 100km. I travel 160km a day and a tank last me about a week. Done 930km on a tank when light came on. Still running in so i dont do more than 120km/h and the driving style is modest.

      Thanks Volksie, yeah that's what I thought. I was doing max 120-130 so there's no way I did that.

      That's what irritates me I'm also still running in my engine and now i don't know what long term damage they have done

        It could've just been left idling for a while - I picked my car up from the dealer when it had been in for an aircon fix and they had left it idling for 7 hours to dry the car out - this was a new car too so I was in your boat!

          Do an experiment to mimmic what they may have done.
          Start your car in the morning idle it for a minute. Then move it from one parking space to another and report back here what fuel consumption you get.

            Yer just from previous cars 22l/100 isn't from driving unless absolutely smashing the car. Its from accelerating breaking reversing in short bursts but with a heavy foot

              In my 206 I used to get instant fuel readouts of 30l per 100kms when taking off quickly. If they reset the trip computer & did a short test drive (most mechanics do this - particularly if you've asked them to look into anything out of the ordinary) then it's feasible that the readout is correct without there being any inappropriate behaviour by the service person.

                Think about it, the calculation is fuel use/distance.

                If the car is driven from the car park in the workshop to the hoist, idled to warm up stationary 10-15 mins, oil dropped, serviced, refilled, driven around the block rapidly a few times (ie. all less than 2KM) you have used a total of 440ml of fuel.

                I reckon you are being precious. A car will use over a litre of fuel on idle for an hour.

                  Depends on the trip reading too. With my last car, a BA GT, it was common knowledge this was they typical type of car used for the lunch run, so I made a point of letting my accepting tech guy know I was taking note of the kms and fuel use. I never had an issue, but other GT guys had seen their car out getting flogged round town. It absolutely happens, and far more likely if you have a sporty car in the model range.

                  I'm now safe in a TDI.

                    Regardless, there's nothing you can do about it... trust me I've been there.

                    If you're dropping the car off somewhere and the guys don't seem like genuinely good/trustable people, just take the car elsewhere - at least say if you're just getting the tyres or exhaust done, etc.

                      Use your cruise control lever & switch it to "Valet" mode when you drop it off. Halves the RPM & limits speed so they will take another car for the lunch run.

                      When you pick it up, spend 15 seconds to switch it back to performance mode.

                      Problem solved.

                        Or do what i have done (i don't recommend) I have placed a pen camera in the lighting unit above the driver (center top).

                        I have told them before dropping it off due to legal reasons that the car is under surveillance at all times (when the ignition is turned ofc for power).

                        Hope they never find my mini disc recorder in the boot >.<

                        But that sort of work requires a lot of patience and some cash...lol

                          Either way you guys are right .. There's not much I can do about it now but I will definately be more careful going forward and take precautions.

                          1.Take note of milage in front of them.
                          2.Warn them about the tracking system. lol

                          And warn them about the possibility of there being hidden cameras lmao
