Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Trading in a MK6 Golf TDI DSG for a MK6 Polo 77TSI DSG

Hi, I'm thinking of trading in a MK6 Golf TDI DSG for a new MK6 Polo 77TSI DSG. The thing is, can I do it?

The fully almost optioned Golf should be worth around $33k and the Polo is around $23k.

Do you think the dealer would give me $10k change? Has anyone done something like this before? Trading in an expensive car in exchange for a cheaper car. Thanks!

expect to get $3-4k less from a dealer than you'd get on a private sale, because they will want profits, and also have higher overheads/expenses on resale of used cars than someone selling it as a private buyer would.

Expect to get less than you expect - and a lot of aggravation - from a private sale. The PRIVATE used car market here in Aus is the pits. I would have broken even with a trade-in every time. I think I've learned my lesson. Sorry to be such a downer... It was a lot better and easier overseas.
